Airplay mirroring broke in 10.9.2

Was experiencing the black Apple TV screen output from my iMac, an inability to select and Mirror, and didn't have an Arrangement tab in the systems preferences Displays configuration settings feature. The following steps were performed which restored AirPlay functionality to normal:

1. Completely removed Parallels mobile Access (don't believe the app was related to the issue; however, the app offers remote viewing and control capability).

2. Removed Dropbox and BOINC manager (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) from the auto start list during login (systems preferences Users and Groups ==> Login Items)

3. Rebooted and Airplay functioned as desired along with a return of the Arrangement tab.

Subsequent to the above three steps, Dropbox and BOINC manager were added to the Login Item list individually with a corresponding reboot. In each case Airplay continued to function.

Don't know how Airplay is designed but one of the computing projects within BOINC is Einstein@Home which contains GPU (not CPU) computing functionality; could there have been a GPU vs. AirPlay conflict? One upgraded BOINC twice earlier this year (might have been an issue with the upgrade - didn't shutdown BOINC before each upgrade). Hope this info is found useful!

I have three different Macs at home, an 2011 MBP, a 21" iMac, and a Mac Mini, all running different users with different SW setups. None even see the AirPlay icon in menu bar any more. Occasionally the bar has flashed like it was going to be there, but can't select it.

All my iOS devices still mirror to the ATV fine. Sure sounds like a 10.9.2 problem to me.

I do NOT have AirParrot or any other 3rd party display manager. I do have VMWare on the MBP and Parallels on the other, but can't deinstall those. Any ideas??

Further data: Was able to get iTunes 11.1.5 to play on the ATV when playing back a movie, using the icon shown within iTunes on the bottom of the screen. Change security level to require onscreen code, and that worked. Turning it off, still see NO AirPlay icon in the menu bar for mirroring. Have double-checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" is checked, and tried turning it off and on.

So near as I can tell, ATV is working fine. It is only the 10.9.2 mirror that is failing to work.

I never har Airparrot or airdisplay ot any other third party app installed fpr using mirroring. But after updating to 10.9.2 airplay mirroring stopped working. Ha no problem using airplay in my ios7 iphone and out of itunes on my macbook air. everything worked fine except mirroring on the mac. What did it for me, was resetting PRAM. After a quick reset everythine works fine now... Dont know why...

I dont know why, but the answer is!!!!!!

1. Boot in safe mode

2. Reset PRAM

Thats it.

Airdisplay was the problem here. Using the uninstaller located in utilities solved the problem.

The producer of Airdisplay, Avatron is fully aware of the problem and claims it is a problem with OSX - not them(!). There is NO info on their homepages, and NO will to refund the dues paid for an obsolete and totally useless Airdisplay. This is not the way a serious company would act...

Stay away from them.

He promised me to find out how to fix it, but it was on April 1th. maybe he made fun with me.

At least I never heared from him again, and I still waiting on a remove of the opdate.

All Apple have to do, is make a very short code in the programming, that takes like 1-2 hours to do (max).

Their priotet look like make lot more hours in suport, to them that have Apple Care !

Just like most everyone else in this discussion our ability to use Airplay disappeared right after upgrading to Mavericks 10.9.2. On my 2013 iMac 27" my dropdown menu for Airplay in the Menu Bar was stuck on Extend Desktop. I could not select Mirror iMac. The Extend Desktop mode didn't work either. I only had a black screen on my TV.

We tried many of the things suggested in this discussion, without success. But yesterday we found the fix to our problem. Years ago when my wife and I acquired our first iPads, we installed the 3rd party app named Air Display by Avatron which allows you to mirror your Mac to your iPad. Someone else in this discussion suggested that this app could be a problem. We had difficulty finding the uninstaller for Air Display, but my wife was finally successful by using the app Easy FInd. After uninstalling Air Display my Airplay started working perfectly again immediately. If you have Air Display, I would highly recommend uninstalling it!

I had the same problem airplay isn't working with mavericks. I previously had airparrot, I reinstalled it to try it again, still not working. I went into iTunes to play music to see if airparrot would work with just music. I clicked on the airplay icon in iTunes to select the computer speakers and not airplay. Doing this I can now mirror my computer to my TV through appleTV and watch movies using VLC.

Brand New MacBookPro Retina without any 3rd party software downloaded yet.

I just got the MBP yesterday, updated the software, and AppleTV doesn't work... in fact, it stops the network connection to the Apple TV every time I try to Mirror using my MBP.

Apple TV is connected with ethernet straight to the router.

iPhone and iPad both work flawlessly with the Apple TV.

Again, I have never installed Airparrot or AirDisplay or any other software mentioned in this thread.

I have a one day old MBP which does not work with AppleTV... disappointed to say the least... I have never returned an Apple product, but I think this MacBookPro might be the first... sure will miss that Retina display, but I use AppleTV mirroring every day so this is a deal breaker for me.

Seems like there is no solution to this problem.

i did not migrate anything - straight out the box with a clean factory install of maverix

Figured out my issue... turned out to be a router setting on my E1200 router:

Applications&Gaming/ QoS / WMM Support -> Disabled

...after changing this settings, I would not get audio to play (only video) but a quick reset of the ATV made the MBP allow both video and audio to airplay to ATV.

Problem seems to be sorted (for my particular case).

I've uninstalled AirDisplay but still have the aformentioned problems. Anybody find a matching kext from my Extensions that was conflicting with them? Thanks!

Thay told me to reinstall all my sustem, and wben it damaged all my setup and has no effect.

I told him, it is all just about the last OSX opdate to 10,92.

That result in he just ignoring me.

What do you oher meet here, can Apple learn from their mistakes and make programming that takes short time, then to reopdate ALL users?!
