Airplay mirroring broke in 10.9.2

i just updated to 10.9.2 and now when i try and airplay mirror to my Apple TV, it sends the audio but just shows a black screen and i can't drag anything to it. It doesn't show any of the options for external displays in the displays section of System Preferences.

Any ideas? i tried reapplying the combo update with no luck

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

according to Apple, yes. The Wireless Mutimedia person i spoke with stated that even though it is a core Apple functionality, Safe Mode is designed to run the minimum amount of things as to troubleshoot and marrow down issues.

i don't remember who it was, but whoever said they use to work at Apple and that they probably don't read the threads for issues etc...i just recieved an email from someone in Engineering that referred to the thread and asked for information to help sort it out and figure out what is going on.

Probably because of the media attention...

Hopefully I can reproduce it on my home machine. I have 10.9.2 with AirParrot installed, I just haven't used AirPlay recently so I wouldn't know whether I was affected or not.

It is true that these threads are not officially monitored by Apple employees. However, as you have noted, when an issue arises, it is possible that Apple will take notice and begin an investigation. Keep in mind that issues on a thread, or on blogs, are typically representative of the vocal minority, and don't necessarily represent a widespread or systemic issue.

As a side note, I have not been able to reproduce any of these issues on any of my machines, although that is not surprising, considering most of my Macs are 2012 or newer.

Please let me know if my above fixes have worked for you or if they don't - I may be able to do further investigation if these fixes do not resolve your issue.

so i have completely removed all traces of Airparrot. and after a anxious reboot, the problem still persists.

Even though Airparrot was a common app a lot of us seemed to have, i figured it was something else. I literally changed nothing from the time i was using mirroring before the update to directly after and something affected mirroring. Will look in aforementioned places and report back.

Also, totally unrelated. but has anyone any clue on what might be causing this? i've had it since the release of Mavericks and not prior. It is fairly infrequent but can be at certain times.

I have a solution for all you suffering from this problem to try. There is an Airparrot file, at least I think it is an Airparrot file as it is referred on the Airparrot site, that is called:

APExtFramebuffer

and it resides at: System/Library/Extensions

I have just moved this file to trash rebooted and I have got back Mirroring in Airplay.

I had previously installed Airparrot on a system I migrated to my 27 inch late 2013 iMac running Mavericks 10.9.2 and although I thought I had deleted Airparrot fully prior to the migration clearly I had not.

Good Luck!

Had an email from Apple over the situation, didn't someone say that Apple never looked at these discusions!!!!

Hello,

I wanted to contact you on behalf of Apple Engineering regarding a discussions forum posting you made about not being able to mirror your computer with Apple TV after 10.9.2 update. Are you still having this issue ? If you are still having the issue please let me know what software version is running on the Apple TV. It will show at Settings>General>About. Does the Apple TV require a password or PIN for AirPlay ? The Mac does show 10.9.2 at Apple>About This Mac ? Please also provide a detailed description of the issue. If you could provide screenshots that would be helpful.

Sincerely,

zzzzzzzzz

stlcards@apple.com

If they get back to me I'll post it.

Meanwhile AirParrot still works.

Cheers

That shouldn't matter. That only applies to when your using an extra monitor or airplay mirroring. both of which i wasn't doing when it occured in that screenshot.

Plus that is an invaluable setting especially when it comes to using my Apple TV as an extended monitor. I have tried turning that off and it doesn't fix it.

Anybody else's help would be appreciated
