Wait... Is the solution uninstall a software you use until they fix it because Apple decided to change the way they "rent" the webcam?

Oh, forgot to mention... there seems to be a 10.9.3 coming out soon to address this issue... 😝

Good point Antonio, I had used AppCleaner as well and it didn't get everything. Ran the Air Display uninstaller, rebooted and now my HD Logitech c920 works like a dream on my Mac Pro 8-core

Good luck with your online banking or using your isight while you wait passively for Apple to spoon feed you a fix.

Apple, or the application developers, must absolutely fix this, but I need my camera more than I need those apps, and I don't want to leave myself vulnerable to a "man in the middle" attack in the meantime.

Finally got it fixed by removing Airparrot applacation as well as AirparrotDriver.kext and APExtFramebuffer.kext from /System/Library/Extensions

If you have Air Display installed, then you either have to use the proprietary uninstall script or manually remove

AVFrameBuffer.kext

AVVideoCard.kext

in the /System/Library/Extension folder

in addition to the programm files.

After rebooting things should work

On a early 2008 MacBook Pro:

1 - Launch Skype (installed and used with the video before 10.9.2) .

2 - Try now the Apple video recent app Photo Booth or Message...

For me, it's working.

My last clean install is very old, Leopard or Snow Leopard. I have uninstall before AirParrot and air Server, I don't know if it's necessary.

After following all the proposals on this post and others found on Internet,

the issue was still there for my iMac (24" early 2009, OS 10.9.2) and its integrated iSight.

I tried to uninstall any AirDisplay, AirServer, AirParrot, AirWhatEverIFound ...

(even if I don't remember that I installed them).

But no impact, iSight still not found (but working in Safe Mode, so no Hardware issue) !

So based on all the posts about 3rd party extensions, I went in "System Info" listing Extensions,

looking for the one that were loaded.

I found ScreenRecyclerDriver from unknonw source.

So here is what I did :

- In Finder, open "/System/Library" folder

- Create a folder named "Extension (Off)"

- Copy the file "ScreenRecyclerDriver.kext" from folder "Extension" to folder "Extension (Off)"

- Delete the file "ScreenRecyclerDriver.kext" from folder "Extension"

- Restart iMac.

And YYYYYYEEEEESSSS🙂, iSight is agin found by Photo Booth, FaceTime and Skype.

And no more crash of the famous "VDCAssistant".

I don't know where "ScreenRecyclerDriver" come from, but I found the troublemaker (for my iMac).

Uninstalling AirParrot, Resetting Keychain & rebooting (logout, login) solved the issue for me.

It was created when someone installed ScreenRecycler on your system.

ScreenRecycler is a third-party add-on.ScreenRecycler system requirementsshow the OS X 10.8 release version is still in beta. It is possible that you have updated your Mac OS but not yet found a compatible version of ScreenRecycler.

I can confirm you now problem is conflicting software.

In my case Air Display.

I uninstalled with a third party software which didnt work

You have to use the "Uninstall air display script" in APPLICATIONS/ UTILITIES FOLDER.

Restrart after this and isight is up and running

For other software like Air parrot etc refere to their uninstall instructions in their websites

I got news from a source that Apple will fix this on 10.9.3 so yeah, I will wait passively until the fix arrives. I use AirDisplay (for android devices) and AirParrot from PC to Mac or vice-versa. In software I spent about $100 for my setups, and yet some people think it's very prudent to uninstall the software I use so I can see myself all distorted using photobooth? ROFLMAO!!!!

Well, there's Facetime, Skype and Hangouts as well as Photobooth. You may only want to distort yourself in Photobooth, but there are legitimate uses for the camera for others.

More reasons for Apple hurry up and release 10.9.3 with the fix.
