Hi-pitched screeching sound while making calls

I am having the same issue, with the iPhone 6 and a life proof nuud case. If anyone has come up with a solution, I'd love to hear it. (and not this awful noise!)

I think I have figured it out. The issue is with the LifeProof case and, for me, iPhone 6. For some reason there is feedback between the case and phone. It sounds like I am putting two microphones near one another. I am on my second brandnew iPhone 6 in a Lifeproof and still get the screeching. You can resolve this issue by going to another case that isn't fully encapsulated/waterproof (Otterbox Commuter) or when it starts to screech click the speaker phone on then right back off and the screeching stops. I have done some research and can't find any other forums where people are having issues with other non-apple phones and the Lifeproof cases. Seems to me to be an Apple/Lifeproof issue. Hopefully this helps.

thanks I have been having the same issue and I contacted Apple Support last week and they executed a diagnostic and backed up my phone and reloaded - then my next call I had the screeching came back on the incoming call as well as my out going call. I will remove the Lifeproof case and see what happens.

I have a lifeproof nuud for my iphone 6 and I'm having the same issue. I called lifeproof today and the customer service rep told me that it's fixable. Go to your settings -> general -> accessibility-> scroll down to 'phone noise cancellation' and turn it off. Seems to have worked so far...

I have a iPhone 6+ and have been having the ear-piercing screeching issue for over one month, the entire time I have owned the phone. Yesterday I got a replacement phone shipped to me, first call I had the screeching happened 3 times. I use my phone for work and desperately need to get this problem fixed.

As described earlier sometimes only I hear it, sometimes everyone on the call hears it and sometimes only the customer hears the screech. When the customer hears the noise it is so loud I can hear it from their noise-cancelling headset earpiece. I almost crashed my car the first time it happened, no joke.

I have been on several hours of support calls with Verizon all the way to the Tier 2 Network & Warranty Group. They have investigated and say it isn't the Verizon network. We have tried numerous setting changes and other variables. Verizon determined it is an issue with the 6+ device, sent me a refurbished one and the problem continues w the first call I placed.

Settings:

Cellular Data - On

Enable LTE - Data only

Phone noise cancellation - off

Bluetooth - off (at first I thought it was my Bluetooth headset, but it happens w wired headsets, Bluetooth and no headset at all)

Case - I have experienced the problem with and without my case. (CaseMate wallet case)

WiFi - It has happened w WiFi on and off.

Cell Towers - I can see a 4G tower from my desk, but it has happened 15 miles away from my house as well.

My wife has an iPhone 6(normal), she doesn't spend much time on the phone but has never had the problem.

Not sure if it is related but I also have clicking noises in the background during most calls, also very annoying. And my wife doesn't have that problem either.

Anyone have any other ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same problem. Today it made me drop my phone because it was such a loud beep. Usually they are not so loud. I have an iphone6 and hear it but when I am talking to my husband who has a droid he does not hear it when I hear it. He also hears it, when he hears it on his end I don't hear it. We have Verizon Wireless also. I think it is the provider but it is just my opinion. It seems to be the only thing related.😕

My new Iphone6 does this too and I have the LifeProof case. I think it's the case. Ticks me off for what I paid for it!

Did you ever call LifeProof?? If so what was their response?

I was told at Best Buy last night that it was the Lifeproof case as well. I have the nuud. I got a new one hoping it would be better with it, but no such luck. I tried my iphone6 without the case and had no screeching sounds! I turned off the noise cancellation and that has seemed to help. I will advise if this changes. I hope it works because the sounds is horrifying.

UPDATE- I turned off the noise cancelation and kept the Nuud lifeproof case on the phone. I have not had the screeching sound come back in almost a month. Seems to have solved the annoying issue. To turn off the noise cancellation see below-

Same issue with iPhone 6. I too am using a Lifeproof case and hope that's not the issue. I just turned off the noise cancellation and so far so good. What a relief. Thanks for the help!

Thanks. I think your are correct. I took my case off and no problem for 3 days. Verizon had no clue. It had to be feedback from the LP membrane.

I just ordered a cheapo replacement case because it was driving me bonkers. Thx again for sharing.

Me too! No feedback problems with my Lifeproof Nuud case since I turned off my noise cancellation. It's been 3 weeks. Yay!!
