10.9.2 UPDATE breaks Airplay

Updating OS X 10.9.2 really breaks AirPlay and mac desktop mirroring. PLEASE AVOID, since there is no fix available. As of 2/26/2014.

Airdisplay was the problem here. Using the uninstaller located in utilities solved the problem.

The producer of Airdisplay, Avatron is fully aware of the problem and claims it is a problem with OSX - not them(!). There is NO info on their homepages, and no will to refund the dues paid for an obsolete and totally useless Airdisplay. This is not the way a serious company would act...

Stay away from them.

Well, i thought id take a second to update everyone on this thread.

Maybe i was too quick to judge Apple on this one.

I had hesitated to update to 10.9.2 for fear of loosing extended desktop capability due to threads online like this one.

I finally decided to give it a shot today — as it turns out — i did NOT 😁 experience any problem and the Extended Desktop functionality via AppleTV continues to work! Yay!

Seems anyone experiencing the bug must in-fact have some third party software installed that is causing the issue.

Still, it would be nice to see Apple take part in these discussions either here or elsewhere on the Apple site.

Cheers,

Mike

Nothing anybody has suggested here has helped. I have a Mac Book Pro MacBookPro8,2 running Mac OS X 10.9.2 (I installed The Security Update 2014-002). I have previously always been able to airplay from this computer to the Apple TV by selecting the Airplay icon at the top of my screen. I just tried it tonight and this option is gone. I have not installed any 3rd party display apps (Air Parrot, Air Display, etc.). Just to be sure I checked as other people here suggested to do and sure enough, none of the 3rd party display apps were installed. I wish people here would offer more general solutions for a situation like mine instead of repeatedly assuming that everyone has installed a 3rd party display app. I just installed an update (6.1.1) for the Apple TV and still no luck. I've tried restarting the computer, the Apple TV, resetting my router and modem, all to no avail. Under System Preferences > Displays the AirPlay Display drop down menu is grayed out and reads "No Devices Detected." This is definitely a problem with Apple and I wish there was actually a useful answer to my problem on this forum. Can anyone help?

Embarrassing isn't it, when you figure it out after ranting against Apple?

I upgraded to a 'N' router. This seemed to make the connection even more enjoyable. At first I thought Apple was disenchanted with my old 'G' wireless mode and would not allow such a low grade connection inherently reducing the pleasure achieved with their products. But that was not the case I found out. But you wonder about anything that might interfere with the connection.

hi, thanks!

I have the problem that somehow, the Airplay Display of my MacBook Air fails to show an Apple TV (in Display Preferences.. Airplay display...) which shows instead, on other computers and devices.

RE: solution

I only see an option to "reboot" the wi-fi router, not to "reset it". but rebooting doesn't seem to make the Apple TV show up.

however, i need to know if resetting is the ultimate thing to do, before resetting my precious settings on my router (which i still have to figure out how to save a backup of the current settings to be able to restore them),

please confirm.

Hello all! FINALLY after several months without AirPlay just got it fixed. People been banging on AirParrot for months and forgetting another app which many of you have installed too. It's called Splashtop. Just uninstalled it and Airplay is back! Hooray ! - To uninstall simply re-download the Splashtop streamer here Download and opening the dmg you will find a uninstall script. Run it, restart your maching and voila!
