changing route on iMap

I can't change a route suggested in iMap. There are times that I want to go VIA somewhere to my destination but can't move the blue line. I also want to keep adding to a route. I'm used to Google maps for planning a route, but use iMap for navigation on my iPhne and iPad. Have the same trouble with them, but when I get stuck I simply go and plan my route using Google maps.

Maps doesn't offer much in the way of options. For some trips you'll see one route brightly highlighted with some alternatives in a lighter blue which you can click on to select. But there is no VIA feature. The best you can do is break the trip up into two or more pieces. I think I remember from playing around that bookmarks made on the computer are synced to my iPhone.
