Same here. All well, updated to 11.1.5.5, iPhone not seen by system at all.
Rebooted. Still no go.
Time to roll back!
Guys thanks for your input on this new version. I'm going to sit tight on 11.1.3.8 because at least it works.
Just an update on this. I did a full uninstall of 11.1.5.5 as per the Apple site ie including all the extras in the designated order. plus a reboot. I then did a clean install of 11.1.5.5.
The Windows 8.1 system saw an Apple Mobile Ethernet device and an Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It did not actually list the iPhone name. Explorer did not list the device.
SO, I went through the uninstall process again and this time installed the previous iTunes. Everything worked OK.
I just updated from a working 11.1.4 to 11.1.5 on Windows 8 and it totally broke iTunes. :-( I have tried a repain re-installation (which said it succeeded) and that had ne effect. iTunes cannot even load now (it makes a wied 'invisible window and can't even be killed in Task manager). If i try to stop it in Task manager nothing happens, if i kill all itunes and ipod helper task it keeps trying to do something and randomly pops up a message about a locked library file (which isn't locked) nd in fact the only way I can stop it is to restart the computer.
I am now in a very bad mood and note that the last 2 or 3 iTunes update broke stuff, were a pain to fix, and as far as I can tell added nothing new.
I am starting to dislike iTunes almost as much as I hate Windows 8
nope, my 11.1.4 was wiped out when attempting to update to 11.1.5. When I attempted to install 11.1.5 from a download (while shutting off my firewall and AV), it gives me the missing DLL message. It does not dictate which DLL is missing.
I am really getting sick of this crap each time I try to update or install itunes.
it gives me the missing DLL message. It does not dictate which DLL is missing.
Is that the message described in the following user tip, Ed?
Yes:
I upgraded to iTunes 11.1.5 and, suddenly things are going badly wrong.
I'm trying to watch films and, after a few minutes the screen goes
grey. The sound continues, but there is no video.
The problem exists with these films (at least):
Frances Ha - rented
Cave Digger - film not rented
The Dark Rider - Midsomer Murders series 14
So it seems to affect films, TV programmes and rented films equally.
The films run for about 10 minutes before going grey - once they do,
though, that's it.
I've tried:
- Rebooting the machine
- De-Authorising from iTunes and re-authorising
- Playing from QuickPlayer (exactly the same symptoms)
I've written to the iTunes shop, but it's Saturday, so I'm not sure if I'll get any response.
Any suggestions?

Since this latest release is cleraly flawed, cant you roll back to the last version?
Further to my post above, the symptoms are exactly the same for my iPad (as well as the iPhone).
Well, apart from the fact that it took about 15 min to install on mavericks which is a fenomenally long time for the size of the update itself...
Yes, but when I go through the procedure for uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, the installer (for about one second) installs Apple App Support, then the installer freezes on STATUS.
please advise.
Ed
the installer (for about one second) installs Apple App Support, then the installer freezes on STATUS.
Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
I did as you said, and Apple App Support installed alright.
However, once the installation process starts for itunes, it freezes about 3/4 through the following:
Status: Configuring Windows Firewall
any ideas?

Okay ... let's try "preenabling" iTunes in the Windows firewall:
How to enable iTunes in Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 firewall
Does the install go through after doing that?
I just updated my itunes now my iphone will not connect to my computer. I have windows 8.1

Try Andrei Cerbu's post here or see TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows, in particular section 5, forcing a driver update.
