I have just bought an apleTV. I can't find the mirroring button on my toolbar, however I can mirror using Itunes, I have searched in systempreferences -> Displays but it won't show me the Device. I have already tried restarting all. What am I doing wrong?

Is your imac recent enought so support using an AppleTV as a desktop.

May also want to make sure the option to show mirroring/etc in the toolbar via system preferences>displays.

I have exactly the same problem, on a mid 2011 iMac running mac OS X lion. The Apple Tv recognises and mirrors fine with my ipad 2 but the imac just doesn't see it and there is no option to tick a box nor does my computer even recognise the word 'mirror' or 'Airplay".

ro137483: You need OS X 10.8.5 or newer to run AirPlay Mirroring

I had a similar story...Firewall may be the issue if you got an anti-virus...I set the wireless network on McAfee from 'Public' to 'Work/Home' then all went OK!!
