Yes, twisting a phone could certainly cause problems. I'd stop doing that immediately.

If you believe you have a hardware problem with your phone, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.

Just an update.

The wife and I had both used the ipad charger on occasion, the genius bar had no information on that topic.

They did however replace my wife's phone because she showed no software issues, mine however showed a bunch of system apps crash continuously so the rep actually blamed the problems on the screen being overly sensitive. I argued I wouldn't even have a hand near the phone when it would open other apps and dial numbers but they didn't really listen, they replaced my screen instead of the phone. I suspect it will keep happening and I will have to go back for a replacement.

I am still thinking the extra amperage from the ipad charger is frying these devices.

I agree that is probably to do with overcharging. Because for me it only arises after it reaches full charge and remains plugged in to the charger. But only seen with one charger - a charger that is genuine Apple Charger.

No, that is certainly not the case. Apple sells one charger for both devices in the online store, something it's unlikely that they would do if that charger "fried" iPhones. The phone will not take anymore charge than it can use.

Unless you are an electrical engineer I do not think you are qualified to make that statement, or your an apple representative, either way I would hope you would back up that statement with some facts before telling everyone to keep using a charger that may in fact be causing problems.

Chargers:

When it comes to electrical damage, it is the amperage that causes the damage, and in this case the amperage of the ipad charger is more than twice the recommended for an iphone. Unless there is a capacitor between the phone and batter acting as a surge protector, which there is not based on all the information I can seem to find, then there is a strong change of excessive amperage getting through to the electrical components of the phone. Beyond facts, I will make on assumption that this may be exacerbated when the batter is fully charged and thus less able to absorb the extra amperage.

The only solid explanation that I have read here is that apples chargers are not really charges because that is regulated inside the phone, and the charger is simply a power supply that does not 'force' any amperage, or watts into the battery, nor the device. If this is true the next question that needs to be asked is if the internal regulator of the phone may be malfunctioning and 'allowing' improper current from the "power supply"? I feel like this is a likely scenario, as it is only affecting a small percentage of users.

If you are going to disagree and put everyone's devices at risk, state some facts please.

As far as apple goes, its not necessarily their fault, ignorance and lack of knowledge of a problem is not the company saying it is ok to keep using the charger.

My iphone 6 is acting crazy as well. Not only does it get stuck in landscape mode (which is annoying in itself), but I can't use the phone while it is charging. All kinds of rapid tapping and swiping going on. I first noticed in an app, but then also occurred in email.

I was having the same issue. Took your advice, and check the wall plug. It results that wasn't and original Apple charger. I took it out and then use the original charger that came with the iphone 6, now the problem is solved! I spend many hours reading about similar problems, and the probable solutions, nothing worked until I follow your advice. I'll let you know if the problem appears again.

We have the same ghost. Any answers yet???? I have phone off. Also apps coming on, texting, calling people, etc... and our data use went through the ceiling this week and I think it is my ghost on my phone.

I have the same crazy thing with random links and apps opening, as if my phone is possessed--except I don't have a third party charger and it never happens when it's charging.

It's insane and I feeaking HATE it.

I'll try to close out Safari and all my other open apps quickly and restart the phone, but that doesn't always work. And it happens at such random times that I couldn't just take it into the store to show experts.

JJust realized I'm having the same issues too. Thought it was my life proof case screen overlay causing static then tried an otterbox, same issue. I'm using the brick that came with my iPad 2 and a mfi certified cord from target. Has anyone found a fix.

I'm having the same issue with my iphone 6 purchased in December. I only use the charger provided by apple and I've used 3 different cases. I think I'll take it into an apple store this weekend to see what they say. It happens when my phone isn't charging also.

I have owned the 5s since the day it came out. About 2 months later my screen would do random things while I was trying to do something else. It was like another finger was pushing buttons while I was playing a game or typing a message. The keyboard would do all sorts of random things- type different letters, erase stuff I typed, jump to a different part of the message and start typing or just delete the whole message and leave that screen and open some different app! Very frustrating! I have been to the Apple Store over 10 times to deal with the problem, all without answers. They have no idea what's going on. They have made me reset the whole phone, restore from back up, set up as new, changed my whole screen and put new touch screen interface on it, as well as give me 4 new phones! No real solution... Same thing every time. Each time I came in, the Genius Bar had never " seen or heard of anything like it". I would tell them to look back in my claim history and read it all..They suggested I take off my screen protector, so I took off more than 2 $30-$40 screen protectors. Then my 5s wouldn't work if there was a case on it. So I had to carry it around protection free. That was the only way that stopped all the weird functions. Even while charging nothing strange happened... It was getting crazy! Especially since the closest Apple Store is an hour away from my home. So I finally thought maybe I had a third party app on my phone that is corrupted and making my phone do this- that's when I upgraded to the 6 and tried to download each of my apps separately. Yesterday, my 6 started to do the same thing so I knew it was something not isolated to my 5s or just me so I took to google with my problem. That's where I found this discussion. So after reading about the charger situation, I decided to type this with my phone off the charger to see if it made a difference. Shockingly it has. I don't know why my 5s worked on the charger unprotected but it did. It's the only time I never had problems, but unplugging this one to write this worked also... The charger I am using now is 3rd party- I will try the one that came in the box. But the one I used for my 5s was 3rd party but bought at the Apple Store. Plus my 5s had problems all the time not just while plugged in. Unless it had no case or screen protector on- then it was fine. So back to my original thought- is it a 3rd party app that is causing this craziness? Any updates from anyone recently? Thanks!

I have the same problem with my iPhone 5S and original Apple charger. This is what i see...

* The touchscreen acts crazy and it seems that my touches are not registered correctly on the position is tap or swipe.

* This only happens when the phone lying horizontally (i.e. bubble level) on, e.g. a table AND is changing

* When i lift the iPhone and tilt it (i.e. not level on a table), the problem is solved

* When i unplug the charger, the problem is solved.

Any one the same issue?

I too am facing the "stuck in landscape" issue. I bought my golden 6 (16GB) in Dec too. I have to close the app and then restart it and everything works OK.

Also, I am facing the "ghost" issue in my phone, as if glove mode has been activated. The icons flicker sideways and whenever I click on "Cellular data" in settings, it selects "WiFi" or "Bluetooth" (options above and below cellular data").

One thing to note here is that it usually happens after I pick the phone from charging OR my screen has been shut for quite some time. The fix is easy - I close the screen, count to 5 and switch it ON again and it works fine.

The only thing I did recently is update my iOS to the apple watch one. This happens when my phone is NOT CHARGING (as I use the charger and data cable which came with the box)

Thinking of taking it to Apple care but I doubt they will know **** about it.

I have a iphone 6 and its doing the same erratic touchscreen behaviour. Mine happens when its charging and when its not.

maybe its a software issue that apple has to figure out... i don't know.

whatever the reason is, it sure would be nice to have this fixed.
