DHL "lost" my MBP!

I sent my MBP in for the logic board replacement last week. Apple's repair status hadn't updated so I called to check in, and it never arrived at Apple's facility. The rep said they're starting an inquiry which will take up to 9 business days total- on top of the 7 days I've been waiting for the repair to start. This is crazy- it's like my MBP is cursed or something. Has anybody had a similar problem with DHL? What was the solution? I'm obviously suspecting theft.

The only solution would be for Apple to ship you a new one...at DHL's expense, of course. Be sure to b*tch and moan, too, and demand something in return. Hey, maybe you'll get some free RAM or (if you already have a loaded 15") an upgrade to a 17". And with all the aggravation you're haivng to go through, with potentially comprised data, waiting periods, etc., you certainly deserve it.

As for lost things with DHL, I can't say I've had a problem. Of course, I've only ever gotten two packages via DHL: my replacement Xbox, and Office:Mac. Other than that, 90% of the stuff I get comes UPS, the other 10% FedEx. Speaking of FedEx, I'm a little worried about my 17" MBP: it's been sitting in Shaghai since FedEx picked it up in Shaghai 2 1/2 days ago. Well, it's not supposed to be here for another 2 days anyway, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see...

I was worried the exact thing had happened to me...since my status didn't update on the Repair Status for over week. It turned out that it had just been sitting somewhere, and hadn't been moved to the repair department, but my initial fear was that DHL may have lost it.

This is awful. I guess if they can't find it, Apple would have to raise issue with DHL. I remember reading something in the fine print that Apple was responsible for lost items in shipping. But they must have some agreement with DHL when this sort of thing happens.

If it helps any, they've had my MBP for almost 2 weeks now, and nothing has been done to it, since the repair is on hold for a part order (back order on logic boards). So, even if it got there, there's no telling they would have done any work on it for 2 or 3 weeks anyway 😉

You can exercise your option(s) under the FACT Act (Fair and Accurate Credt Transactions Act).

You have three options. Initial Alert, Extended Alert and Active Military Duty.

Each credit issuer much look for these "flags" before extending new credit, and follow the instructions provided by you (most commonly "call me before opening a new account" type of instruction).

It's hard to believe that with the tracking capabilities they have, DHL would loose it. I would keep the alert on your credit accounts as you stated. My thought is that it might have been stolen along the way, not necessarily by DHL, but by someone else. DHL should be upfront with you if that happened so you can take the action needed to protect your identity.

DHL (formally Airborne) has a notorious reputation
although they’re on the hook to find your shipment.
Personally, I wouldn’t use them to ship anything.
Regards,

Actually, DHL purchased Airborne. Airborne had contract drivers, and DHL had it's own drivers, same as FedEx. Shortly after the purchase DHL fired all the DHL drivers, and a lot of other DHL employees, then used the contract driver model of Airborne. This of course was done to save money on health care, pension, etc. It also meant that the drivers don't realy work for DHL. They work for a trucking company with a contract to deliver for DHL. Since this happened the service has gone downhil in all aspects.

To be fair though their international shipping is fast and efficient.

A couple of months ago, I ordered a fairly expensive camera and memory card from Amazon. They shipped it DHL, but someone "lost" the first shipment. Amazon claims it was DHL, DHL claims that it was amazon, but after several phone calls and a few headaches, Amazon appologized, even though it turned out not to be their fault, and sent me a new camera with a memory card, and a $20 gift card via UPS. So I can sympathize with you if it was DHL who lost the package.

Final update: My original laptop was declared unrecoverable by Apple. They sent me a new MPB with the same specs except for a 2.16ghz processor. DHL recently found my old laptop ad gave up trying to get in touch with apple claims after 5-6 calls to the inept representative I was paired with. I'm having them ship the laptop to Apple Repair (where it was originally supposed to go) and will let them sort it out from there.

All in all, this worked out pretty well.

MBP 2ghz -- Lost by DHL. MBP 2.16ghz -- Now in.
