iPhoto Printing and Default Settings

Help would be appreciated. All of sudden, with no other changes to my computer or my printer, when I try to print a photo to 4x6, 5x7, etc sized photo paper, the print is oriented to portrait, rather than to landscape. Can't find any settings to change the orientation. I've reset my printer to default factory settings. I've noticed that all of the print pre-sets in my computer are set to portrait, and I can't find a way to change the pre-sets. Very frustrating as I print quite a few pictures this way and have never had a problem. The only way I could print a 4x6 and get the whole picture is to print it on 8x10 paper. Thank you for any suggestions. Using MacBook Pro (2011), HP Officejet 8500 all-in-one, and iPhoto 9.5.1.

Your looking at the All my files search view. It won't be in there Go to the Finder preferences and set it up like this:

User uploaded file

That will give you this in the Finder's left hand pane under Devices, i.e. all hard drives, internal and external:

Then go to the Desktop, click on your hard drive (mine is titled Toad Hall) and go from there.

OK. So I was able to re-configure the left panel of Finder. Followed step six successfully. Problem still recurs in iPhoto. Interestingly, I can print just fine out of Picassa. But, I've always printed out of iPhoto and never had the problem before. I've attached a screen print of my last attempt to print. Should I go ahead and follow step 7 and 8 now?

Yes. One thing we haven't tried is reinstalling the iPhoto application. Give that a try.

If that fails it might be time to make a Genius Bar appointment at your local Apple store. If you can I'd print out this topic and take it with you so they know what you've tried before. Be sure to mention that it seems to work in another user account

I went back through the procedure again. This time, when I removed the content of preferences, rebooted, the problem was resolved. However, when I dragged the contents of the preferences folder from my desktop back to the Library, the problem recurred. I was careful to select "do not replace." But, this indicates to me that something from the old preferences file is coming back into the Library. What do you think?

That's what I've been doing this morning. Didn't add back the preferences after I moved them to the desktop and rebooted. As noted, iPhoto printed as it always has. I've checked a half dozen or so of my most frequently used programs, and everything seems to run OK. I'll keep the preferences folder on my desktop for a while in case any problems come up. Thank you very much for your assistance. I'm going to consider that the problem is now resolved. If you have time sometime, I would appreciate knowing how to reinstall iPhoto should the problem recur. As noted previously, I can't find a download file for iPhoto and the app store indicates that iPhoto is already installed. No rush, but if you could drop me one more note telling me how to do that, I'd appreciate it. Again, Thank You for your assistance!
