1. consider that's more than enough for an iPhone.

2. does kind of suck for your laptop.

Sounds like typical throughput of 802.11G. While the raw link speed is 54mbps, after protocal and error correction overhead is typically in the 20's like you've measured.

Is your Router/Accesspoint 802.11G only?

To get 60mbps on your Laptop. You need an 802.11N 2.4ghz or better MIMO 2x2 network card and antennas in the laptop, and a router that supports that link speed.

To get 60mbps on your iPhone. You need an iPhone 5 or later, and link over 802.11N, 5GHz.

Don't know which laptop you have, many laptops, high end laptops like my corp issued 2011 Dell E6410 Core i5 GeForce graphics only shipped with a puny single stream 802.11N that couldn't even do what you want.

My girlfriends older 2006ish Macbook plastic thing, much more capable and has 2x2 MIMO 802.11N dual-band that links at 300.

Laptops are all over the place. Check yours.

A new wireless accesspoint may be in your future...? Airport Extreme's are great.

Googling your HP 2000 series, or some, appear to have shipped with an Atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n wifi adapter. It's a 1x1, no MIMO. It's very gimpy and pitiful.

So your Airport Extreme is a MIMO beast. But, your laptop's and iPhone's wifi chips are pretty gimpy.

There is no hope for your Laptop without an upgrade. And that's complicated as due to FCC regulations, bios locked wifi modules, you'd have to find a make/model your bios allows, and find out if you have antennas to support MIMO. I was lucky with my Dell Latitude and did that very thing. But that's no guarantee, especially on a consumer model.

For your iPhone, if you link it at 5GHz, it should go faster than 21mbps.

  1. Go into Airpot Extreme settings
  2. Turn on 5GHz, give it a different name so you can be sure you are connectoing. "Home_5" for example.
  3. Look for advanced options and set it for channel 149 or higher.
  4. Connect your iPhone to this new "xxxx_5" network. Run speedtest.net app.

Just bought new AirPort extreme, and faced with some troubles such as low wi-fi speed.

I have a strong internet connection 100 mbs/s by ethernet cable. If I connect my PC by ethernet I have speed around 100 mb/s, when I connect it by wi-fi it is around 6 mb/s (speedtest.net).

I have Asus U88-n12 802.11.b/g/n conntected to the computer (6 mb/s), iphone 5 (5 mb/s), iPad 2 (5 mb/s) - according speed test.net

How to increase this speed?

Before this router I had linksys ea3500 and the speed was around 20 mb/s at all devices. The ony reason I changed it to AirPort - was the speed, but...

I have a dhcp connection and routed takes all parameters automatically.

What should I do or change to make connection faster?
