I have plugged in a new audio-technica NON USB turntable and my mac mini will not recognize it. I only want to download my ops to my computer. any advice? I also had trouble downloading audacity. HELP

I have plugged in a new audio-technica NON USB turntable and my mac mini will not recognize it. I only want to download my lps to my computer. I also had trouble downloading audacity. HELP!

If you are "plugging it in" the line in inputs, you should

be able to just select the line in as an audio input. It will

not be "recognized" as anything special.


However, if this is a standard turntable with phono

cartidge, the output will be way to weak to get acceptable

results. Also, LPs are made with RIAA encoding which

reduces the low frequencies and boosts the high frequencies.

Therefore, you need some phono preamp to both boost the

levels and to do apply the "inverse" RIAA equalization.

Have you selected the Line In as the audio input in

Preferences->Sound? Also, when in that pane,

there is an input level meter. Play something on the

turntable and see if there is action on the level display.


Also, open Applications->Utilities->Audio MIDI Setup.

Select the line in and see what it is set up as.


This is also another posibility, sometimes the plugs can

be a fairly tight fit. It may seem like it is plugged in but may

need a little extra push to engage it completely. Mine

is like that.
