MacBook Pro Retina 2013 battery drained overnight when lid is closed

Hi All,

I seems like that since the upgrade to OSX 10.9.2 my battery is drained overnight even when the lid is closed. I never had that in the past, but the last week i noticed that my battery is drained very quickly even when i am not using my MacBook.

Power Nap is disabled in the system settings.

I have made a log with 'pmset -g log' but am not able to read and understand it... Maybe someone can help me with that...

Please help cause this frustrates me for a week now as i cannot find anything...

So this is what happened:

@22:44:22 i went to bed and closed the lid while on battery power, charged 100%

@14:28:27 the logging tells me that the battery was totally drained...

@17:26:12 (next day) i try to turn it on again but battery was empty 0%

So, did not use the MacBook in the meanwhile...

I see that a lot of people have the same problem since the last OSX update... I am curious to know what configurations you guys have??

Here is mine:

- Apple MacBook Pro Retina 13inch

- Airport Extreme 2TB basestation

- Connected via 5GHz WIFI network.

- Apple Magic Mouse connected via bluetooth

- Time Machine turned on

I found a couple of other discussions about sleep not working. This one has a potential solution - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5565445

Basically, if you rum pmset -g log you'll get heaps of output. My macbook (13", pro retina, late 2013) did it again last night so I was able to investigate. It looks like it is waking up about every 30 seconds. Some of the entries say its doing it for no reason, some say for AddressBookSour (which I think is short for AddressBookSourceSync). The other discussion say this is a problem with iCloud. I have iCloud configured but not for contacts!

Exactly the same issue and starting to become a real pain as usually i never turn my Mac off just close the lid, but getting to the office and going to meeting first thing to find my Mac is drained is starting to become an issue. Tried anumber of things to resolve like SMC and NVRAM resets and nothing seems to work. As other have posted this has only started to happen since 10.9.2 Before that no issue at all. Come on Apple please sort this one out.

Thks

Pete

Hi Tlix,

I do not have anti-virus software installed. So, that can not cause the problem. But, thanks for thinking with us to find a solution.

Maybe the iCloud causes it as DavidHicks suggests. I try this tonight and see if (when i disable all iCloud syncing) this solved the problem. But, i doubt this because i already disabled bluetooth and WiFi over the night without any improvements.

Mar 14, 2014 12:56 PM in response to Rob.nl

Last night i tried to disable iCloud completely... As expected, there was no improvement. Still my MacBook drains the battery when in sleepmode.

My god... Time for Apple to solve this problem in the software. As this is in my opinion the only possible cause. Have to switch of my MacBook everytime is stop using it. This annoys me...

Mar 15, 2014 6:14 AM in response to Rob.nl

I have contacted Apple support for this issue.... They gave me two options to try out:

1. Add a new account on my Mac and try if the same happens during SleepMode

---> This was the case. Also in the new created account, the battery was drained and Mac did not go to sleep.

2. Boot Mac in Safe mode and rty if the same happens

---> Heyyy.... This one does not drain the battery. Mac is going to sleep perfectly and... Hmmm interesting.

Depending of the outcome of the above tests, Apple support can continue. So, i will contact them again and share my findings.

To be contionued...
