Until you know the id and password then you won't be able to activate (or remove the phone from your account) and use the phone.
Do you have any of its purchases on your computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1920 ?
If not then you could try http://iforgot.apple.com and see if that can you can get you access to the account.
