iPhone 5s Making Crackling Noises During Calls

I have an iPhone 5s with Verizon and am very unhappy about the crackling noises that it makes during calls. I previously had a Motorola Droid Razr HD and had no problems at all. Everything will sound fine for awhile and then it starts making weird noises. It even sounds like someone is shouting into the other end of the phone for entire words or only parts of words. I contacted Apple about this and they did a diagnostic test on my phone and said the only thing they could see was that I had too many apps open. Not only have I closed all of them, but I've reset the device and no luck. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks.

Hi Rychter,

I got my iphone 5c in Feb,2014. From the time I bought till date, I am facing the issue of Crackling sounds during calls.

It happens when I speak for more than 15 or 20 minutes. This is an intermittent issue. Happens on an average of 4 or 5 times a week.

When I am in call, suddenly the other person will not be able to hear me and on my side I will be hearing a loud crackling noice on my side, else sometimes I dont hear anything at all. Then I have to cut the call and make a fresh call.

I have checked with the Apple Imagine store. They intially said this is a software issue and reseted my software. I got the issue again, so went again. They replaced my receiver module. Received the seviced phone last week. But again I am getting the same issue. I have given my phone for service again today. I have requested them to replace my phone with a new one. But they are not ready to do that, as this is an intermittent issue.

I am waiting for them to update.

I am having same issues with Apple iPhone 5. This started when I upgraded OS to iOS 7.0. I experienced many drop calls, crackling sounds, phone hangs up, battery drains etc. So went to Apple store and replaced the device (first time). The issue started again on the new device, this time complained to ATnT and they did diagnostics test and found out that there were at least 70 drop calls in 3months, so referred back to Apple. Again replaced the device last week, this is 2nd time replacement. The issue started again. I have to go back to Apple and check with them.

Assuming it's not a faulty iPhone, and/or that it hasn't been dropped (hard) and physically damaged, audio quality issues are often related to the phones linking to the other phone via your service provider. Talk to them as well as Apple.

This is common in Australia, and reactivation of the sim (by the telco service provider) .... while you are actually talking to them ..... a 5 second job ...... can fix the prob.

Not sure about Verizon (do they use simcards????) but same principle applies. Poor contact to called phone via the service provider can cause this.
