Superdrive noise

Mine MBP does the same whirring noises. Should I take to apple ask for my money back? Ain't these machines supposed to be "just perfect" Hello I'm MAC

The slogan is: "It just works."

It does work right? No problem for Apple. There is nothing that claims perfection sorry.

It depends what kind of "clicking" you are talking about, but mine is loud and mechanical sounding too. But like what was mentioned above, I haven't come into contact with any drives that were silent.

The alluminum case will also magnify sound that a plastic laptop will muffle too.

To everyone with a MBP with clicking superdrive, I'd recommend getting it looked at ASAP. My clicking started about two weeks ago and got progressively louder and lasting longer (on start-up and wake from sleep). Yesterday after ejecting a CD it began whining VERY loudly for about half a minute. In other words, the problem is getting worse. And this is definitely NOT normal or the result of the aluminum case amplifying the noise. It's downright screeching on ejecting a CD.

Just talked with a friend who bought a MBP around same time as me and hers is also developing the clicking and, like me, her clicking is getting louder and lasting longer.

OK, I did some more poking around and think my issue is probably the fan and not the optical drive: sound comes from the right top of case near the delete key.

Though I'm not sure this explains the very loud screeching noise heard on ejecting a CD.

did you find a solution to this? is it hardware malfunction? because i can burn in idvd but that's the only program that lets me burn and i've never had a succesful try in burning cd-r media...

All these Apple Discussion forum "experts" keep making trite and banal comments that are totally irrelevant.

I had a PowerBook G4 prior to my brand new MBP 15" 2.16 GHz machine. The drive was fine.

My SuperDrive now makes a whirring noise when it plays a CD or DVD (no, not like normal background noise people). It is evident that is defective, a fact made more clear when I tilt my laptop and the DVD player freezes and it sounds like the SuperDrive is undergoing apoptosis.

This is a MASS defect. Many people on MacForums have mentioned it. TAKE IT BACK, TAKE ACTION, MAKE APPLE ACCOUNTABLE.

Noticed that on DVD it is a whirling sound with STRONG vibrations. I can feel the vibrations a foot away on my bed.

On CDs I am getting the loud fan noise. It isnt that bad but shouldnt be there.

The vibration is really bad.

I'm having the same problems when I first insert a disk or instal a program. This is my replacement for the isight going out in the first one. I'm going to try to get ANOTHER replacement after Christmas.
