I updated to iOS7.1 on iphone 4s and wifi is grayed out and bluetooth is not working. It was fine minutes before I upgraded. Apple support claims it must be a hardware issue. Ok Sherlock if that was the case than why did my phone which I had no previous connection issues with before fail after a software update. Are there any class action lawsuits regarding Apple sabotaging their own products so they can sell new ones?

Why? Because your hardware was defective, but no yet creating a problem. Your wi=fi chip was deective nad had a lower than standard heat tolerance. The update process generates heat. Ever notice that your laptop or desktop computer gets warm after its been running for a while, or while you're downloading a file or streaming video? Processors generate heat when they are running,a nd generate more heat the harder they work.

This wi-fi greyed out issue has been around a lot longer than iOS 7. This is not an act of sabatoge. If it was, then ALL iPhone 4S units running iOS 7 would have the SAME problem.

You had a defective unit. Either get it replaced under warranrty if it is still covered, pay the $199 out-of-warranty fee, or ask Apple to grant you an exception to being out-of-warranty. Call Apple Support, ask to speak to a supervisor, and present your case for a free replacement calmly and logically.

Interesting, can you prove, that the hardware was defective before installing iOS7 ?

If yes why didn't you advice for cooling during installation or recall the iPhone earlier ?

I find this strange and would like to understand, because I have the same problem, wifi killed itself two days after installing iOS7.1.

Can you actually answer my questions ?

Thanks and regards

Dirk

What's don't connect means?

It reads the signal? or

It doesn't read at all? or

It's connected but no signal?

Post screenshoot, 2 lines of question won't explain the whole thing. Try restore through DFU mode and don't restore from backup once done, test your wifi first.

Some tips available here may help you https://www.google.com/search?newwindow=1&q=%22iPhone+Wi-Fi+Greyed+Out+How-to+Fi x+this%22

Wifi is now working again !

Is really a hardware issue ?

Lets see, how long it lasts.

Solution:

My wife found this via google search, and this is not a joke.

-Place the iPhone on a soft towel or so and keep it switched on.
-Heat it with a hair dryer from the side with the earphone plug.
-After a few minutes, it warns "temperature" and turns itself off.
-Let it cool down. You then can switch it on (wifi still not working).
-Reboot now by holding home and on buttons until the Apple logo comes back.

Thats it ! My iPhone 4S straight away connected to my home wifi......

I actually can not follow. What do you mean with software ?

Though everything is working fine, which software could be affected ?

What eles do you want to know, than everythin is working fine ?

What I'm asking is if you currently believe the hardware or the iOS is the culprit, based on your own recent observations. You seemed adamant that it was the iOS, so I'm asking you how the iOS can be modified or affected by a temperature change.
