The top of my iPod touch screen is darker than the rest of my screen after the newest update?

So today I turned on my iPod touch (5th generation) and it said there was a software update available. I updated it with no problem, but after the update I noticed almost half of my screen was darker than the rest at the top. (Posting screenshots below) I don't know if it's supposed to be like that because of the update or not. Also, I have a little blue dot (assuming it's a 'dead' or 'stuck' pixel) on my screen that was there when I bought the ipod BRAND NEW on February 13th of this year and I'd like to know if that may be affecting it? Any help would be appreciated!

The same thing is happening with my iPhone 4 since I updated to 7.1, but only when I use photos that I have downloaded from the internet for my wallpaper. When I use my own photos it doesn't happen. It's probably something to do with copyright and fair use. "If you do not have specific permission (preferably written!) from the owner of a photo, you cannot legally display it on a website, post it to the Usenet, copy it, send it around by Email or other means, make photos derived from it, sell it, or otherwise exploit it." from http://webnet77.com/webstuff/copyright.html

Whether the copyyright thing is valid or not, it's just what I've noticed. Anything that I have made a screen shot of and then imported to iPhoto, or any of my own photos, do NOT get the "dark third" treatment when trying to use as wallpaper. Anything that I imported directly into iPhoto from somewhere on the web DOES get the dark third.

And, as I read above, and have read before, it is illegal to copy or download any photo from anywhere without permission from the photographer. You can share a link that has the photo in it, but you aren't supposed to just use it yourself. It happens millions (billions?) of times a day, I know, but, technically, it's not legal, even if you just copy it to look at on your own computer. I'm not on a mission to stop people from doing it, as I do it myself, but those are the facts.

I'm with Megaemperor here. "New Feature", give me a break, it takes a nice image, whatever you have selected and degrades it with a false darkening. I really don't get the point, and if it's to make some text that may show up in as a notification easier to read, it isn't needed. I have never had a problem reading the text, but sure don't like that the Degas image I use on my Ipad, looks like it is improperly imported. At the very least, give the option to turn off the "feature", perhaps at the same time as you fix the still broken sizing issues. Love most of 7, but these two issues really should not be part of the os.

I know this is only a temporary fix, but if you 'enlarge' the picture when you go to set it as your wallpaper, the darkness will go away. Essentially, the bigger the picture, the clearer the view. I don't know if this works for ALL photos, but it fixed the darkness on the pictures I set as my wallpaper. I agree with those who say we need to complain to Apple till they fix it, this is B.S. that we paid good money for this product and they go and ruin it unnecessarily.
