iOS 7.1 Personal Hotspot APN settings won't save on iPhone 4

Hello,

I am facing a problem, which would be great to resolve. Since I updated to iOS 7.1 I can't set APN setttings for Personal Hotspot in my iPhone. If I go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings, and I set the APNs(for data+mms) and i go back to save the freshly set APN settings then it saves, but if I touch any fields in the "Personal Hotspot" section (even focusing) and I go back the same way any changed value won't save (e.g. I also change data APN). In the menu "Cellular" there is an option for personal tethering where it just keeps loading and after a ehile it becomes an available option, but if I click on it it displays an error message like: "...contact: Carrier". So I tried everything, I reset my network settings, did 3 full restore(via iTunes, in recovery mode and DFU too). Then finally I downgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and guess what, it started working.. Then I thought it repaired some settings bug which burned in my device and I restored 7.1 in DFU. Now it is not working again. I need the help of community since I need hotspot tethering so hard everyday for my job. Thanks in advance!

I have exactly the same problem.

In my case: iPhone 4 16GB running iOS 7.1. I am in Spain using Simyo (formerly owned by KPN).

What it basically happens is that the APN data in the Hotspot field is not saving, ultimately the Hotspot option keeps on loading without any success. I've already reported the bug to Apple, hopefully with the next update it will be fixed.

Nice try, Apple Insider, but doesn't match the facts. Firstly, it's only iPhone 4. How come later versions of iPhone don't have that new Apple feature? Secondly, there are at least two of us who have posted that are in Thailand using TrueMove which is one of Apple's supported carriers. Thirdly, the network does support tethering. There are many, many reports above of users who used tethering on versions prior to iOS7.1, so obviously their mobile phone carrier supports tethering.

@joenissan: Are you using an iPhone 4?

In my case (iPhone 4, iOS 7.1, same problem, Hotspot worked fine with 7.0.6) , my carrier (OPT in New Caledonia) is not an official Apple partner. It never will be since it's the only telco operator, but I have confirmed with them that the plan does not disallow using Personal Hotspot. There is basically only one type of plan, and if you subscribe, then you are entitled to full data access. So this Apple Insider report looks like it's inaccurate. In fact, it doesn't even say it was intentional.

I have a iPhone 4 and my carrier is Telenor Hungary. This carrier is not apple partner, personal hotspot not working. In Hungary there are 3 carrier, Telenor, Vodafone, T-Mobile. Vodafone and T-Mobile is apple partner. I insert a T- Mobile sim to my phone and what happened? Personal hotspot doesn't work. What happened apple?

@joenissan: The "supported carrier list" does not explain, why I can use personal hotspot on an iPad (with iOS 7.1) but not on an iPhone (with iOS 7.1) using the same SIM-Card. And on top of that - my carrier officially allows tethering but is not a supported carrier (in fact it is a 100% subsidiary company of a supported carrier).

There is an article on MacRumors too. Hope this attention will help to solve this issue soon.

For what I understood, talking over the phone with both apple support and my carrier's customer service (Wind, Italy) looks like is not an immediate solution issues. At the beginning totally looked like an IOS bug, but it certainly involves commercial agreements with local carriers. The way that Apple - which is the common point of all Iphone users worldwide from different national carrier - is handling this is quite bad, for the simple fact that there was no notice at all about it! People just can't use this feature anymore from a day to the other! For someone was quite important to have internet connection available all the time, for work, study etc.

Looks like there should be some kind of communication between all these local carrier and Apple. But I believe this process is gonna take quite a while.

So immediate solutions, if you really need tethering, could be either change phone or carrier!

Anyway keep leaving a feedback that's the only way to get them to do something!
