iOS 7.1 Personal Hotspot APN settings won't save on iPhone 4

Hello,

I am facing a problem, which would be great to resolve. Since I updated to iOS 7.1 I can't set APN setttings for Personal Hotspot in my iPhone. If I go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings, and I set the APNs(for data+mms) and i go back to save the freshly set APN settings then it saves, but if I touch any fields in the "Personal Hotspot" section (even focusing) and I go back the same way any changed value won't save (e.g. I also change data APN). In the menu "Cellular" there is an option for personal tethering where it just keeps loading and after a ehile it becomes an available option, but if I click on it it displays an error message like: "...contact: Carrier". So I tried everything, I reset my network settings, did 3 full restore(via iTunes, in recovery mode and DFU too). Then finally I downgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and guess what, it started working.. Then I thought it repaired some settings bug which burned in my device and I restored 7.1 in DFU. Now it is not working again. I need the help of community since I need hotspot tethering so hard everyday for my job. Thanks in advance!

Exact same problem here: bob in Austria on iPhone 4 16GB with iOS 7.1. I even tried the iPhone Configuration Utility on OS X to try to get the APN settings to stick, no luck.

As of now this discussion has been viewed almost 46.000 times - please, Apple, please, do something about this, don't disappoint a myriad of faithful users!

Same issue here with CNT (public telecommunications company in Ecuador). They are not a virtual network operator, they own their own mobile network, but are not an apple partner. They allow personal tethering and my plan includes internet access for exactly that purpose and they don’t know anything about that problem.
“We allow it, it should work.”

Bugs can happen (OF COURSE), and this is not even the main issue. What bothers me is the lack of communication from Apple’s side.

If it is a freaking bug, SPIT IT OUT – if it’s a “feature” for whatever reason, SPIT IT OUT AS WELL.

Just let us the F know what this is about so we can ACT (do we wait, do we change the carrier, do we change the phone etc)... Instead a month goes by and we're still in the dark.

WHEN WILL THE ISSUE BE RESOLVED REGARDING THE PERSONAL HOTSPOT I NEED IT WORKING AS IM ON THE ROAD A LOT???

IS THERE ANY CHANCE OF APPLE GIVING US AN UPTATE AS TO WHATS BEING DONE TO SORT IT OUT?

PLEASE KEEP US IN THE LOOP, LET US KNOW WHATS HAPPENING.

Is there any chance someone from Apple could post something here to let us know whats happening?????

*bumps*

That **** needs to stop Apple. If you've made contracts in the USA, European carriers are more than happy to deliver to their users, unlike the US. Turn that feature back on ... I'm experiencing issues with hotspot as soon as I switched to iOS 7.1. I've never jailbroken my phone because I respect the brand but if you **** with me, **** you.

When I posted here about this issue (19-mar-2014 2.12) I was quite sure that Apple would solve in a short time. I choosed Apple (iPhone-4 + iPad2 wifi) for reliability, to save time and to have no problems, ever.

This is why I was happy to spend a little (much) more for Apple product.

Now ... I have a 3 GB/month traffic plan with WIND (Italy) that I PAY without any chance to navigate with iPad or with any other device.I choose iPhone-4 as my mobile 3G network gateway and I pay the Carrier for APN traffic ... but since iOS 7.1 update I'm in a biguncomfortableness and uneasiness.

What did I do wrong ?

Same problem here.

I've spent hours and hours in forums on the phone with support engineers or via chat. I spoke to my carrier and everything was fine with my account. Resetting, rebooting, changing settings. Nothing helped. The problem clearly affects users where following 3 conditions concur:

  1. 1. Iphone 4 or 4s
  2. 2. iOS7.1
  3. 3. Virtual Carrier

Finally one of the support engineers, in spite of all the evidence that can be found all over web, concluded that it had to be a hardware problem and sent me to an apple store for diagnostic. Once there, the apple employee took out my SIM placed it into a new Iphone 4 with iOS7.1 and voilá, the hotspot option disappeared on a completely new Iphone.

So, I'm attaching final diagnostic and conclusion from the "Genius Bar" employee. It is a shame that you need to waste so much time in order to get Apple to admit that something is wrong with their last update.

Guys, just call up your support center feel free to use the below Repair No. Don't let support fool you around with excuses about faulty apps or hardware defects. iOS7.1 introduced an issue that prevents your hotspot from working if you have an iphone4/4s and use a virtual carrier.

Hi philgblau, it doesn't only affect virtual network operators. My carrier is the network owner, but they are no official Apple partner, which leads to the same problem.

iTunes is looking for a carrier information update, but since they are no partner, there is no information to be updated and the tethering information cannot be saved.

The way I get it all carriers, that are no Apple partners are affected – that probably includes all virtual carriers, though other networks like mine can be affected as well.
