iOS 7.1 Personal Hotspot APN settings won't save on iPhone 4

Hello,

I am facing a problem, which would be great to resolve. Since I updated to iOS 7.1 I can't set APN setttings for Personal Hotspot in my iPhone. If I go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings, and I set the APNs(for data+mms) and i go back to save the freshly set APN settings then it saves, but if I touch any fields in the "Personal Hotspot" section (even focusing) and I go back the same way any changed value won't save (e.g. I also change data APN). In the menu "Cellular" there is an option for personal tethering where it just keeps loading and after a ehile it becomes an available option, but if I click on it it displays an error message like: "...contact: Carrier". So I tried everything, I reset my network settings, did 3 full restore(via iTunes, in recovery mode and DFU too). Then finally I downgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and guess what, it started working.. Then I thought it repaired some settings bug which burned in my device and I restored 7.1 in DFU. Now it is not working again. I need the help of community since I need hotspot tethering so hard everyday for my job. Thanks in advance!

It seems you are right. After my history a couple of days ago i again contacted base, they told me that it's apple responsability since my mobile internet works. I then send a mail to the apple supervisor who i was in contact with stating that the issue was with apple. The supervisor then said, ah it is possible that the carrier won't work for the personal hotspot because it is not partner carrier, and they need to adopt their settings. I then asked if he didn't receive any calls regarding the fact that the apn doesn't save for the personal hotspot, cause there originates my problem aswell, he then stated 'ah their is a known issue and yes it is a software bug, we only know that since 24th of march'. This is strage since i called already 15th or something regarding exactly that issue....

He said to wait for an update. But he insisted though on the fact that it might not work at all since for carrier 16.0 / ios7.1 the non partner carriers should update their settings because for non partner carriers the personal hotspot use in default, is set to not work....

So here we go! Indeed, this is not a bug. Apple have deliberately disabled tethering.

How dare Apple behave like this. What right has Apple to interfere in my relationship with my operator? It's none of their business in how I use my data.

This is the final straw! Never again will buy an iPhone.

Over and out.

Once again I have to say... If apple is blocking this feature for unofficial carriers, why will keep selling FACTORY UNLOCKED DEVICES to choose the carrier?

Then, once again, even my iphone got an unofficial carrier, my Ipad 4 with sim card is carrying an official carrier partner ( or at least it was, althought is a factory unlocked device ), and isn't working either.

Then, about the extra fees due the personal hotspot featuret... Let's say I set a personal network at home with a wifi router, and I share the wifi conection with ANYONE AT HOME living or not in my house... Will my home internet service company charge me a fee because I'm sharing my network with anyone i want? I'll be who will be loosing speed or data transfer limit, but is MY problem, no service company problem... I'm already paying every bite going throught, no matter who is using it!

Apple is obliged to sell unlocked devices, especially in europe, costumer rights.... otherwise the eu 'gives' them fines. The problem with not saving the apn for personal hotspot is a bug, that's probably the reason why your partner carrier sim doesn't work anymore. But regarding the partner and non partner carriers, it's clear that apple wants to give the partner carrier some advantages -> looking at the 4g they block for non partner carriers. So regarding the personal hotspot it is also possible that they want to reserve that for partner carriers. Would that be a legal actions: i don't think so, speaking from the eu point of view. You cannot give an option to somebody and later turn it off again but this will be something for lawyers i am afraid...

I think that Apple is indeed required to comply with certain laws applied in different countries.

Perhaps it may not officially blocked the APN clients on a non-operating partner, but here it is a "bug", it is therefore not responsible ...

There will be a time when it will reactivate the option, but in the meantime, it's nice to have partners that will win back customers.

For my part, he won, I'll change operator failing to change smartphone. I am still happy with the product, even if I am disappointed Apple's policy

Hello guys,

That's the second time i'm writing here. 2 week and 30 pages of complaining and still not any official reply from Apple. I used the hotspot for business and payed an extra plan for that. WHO WILL PAY THE MONEY BACK FOR THAT???????

As i can see a lot of guys are in the same situation. I cannot believe that Apple is not giving a solution!!!

Never ever any Apple device again....

Same issue in India...... Apple has not mentioned regarding hotspot in upgrade. Also the authorized service providers doesnt support 3G in India 😟. We can use personal hotspot for our personal use it has nothing to do with carrier...... This is ridicuous....Apple should share new update to resolve this or provide option to downgrade the IOS version......
