how can I transfer photos from ipad - pc if pc doesn't recognise device as harddrive?

I have synced my ipad to laptop with windows 8 on itunes - but I cant get the photos to copy across so I can delete them from ipad.

I have also tried this - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 - to transfer images but my laptop doesnt recognise the ipad as a hard drive and therefore as a device to import the images from.

I have an ipad 2 - which I have had for a few years and have never been able to get the photos off (have over 20k) and I went to the Apple store and they suggested I try different laptops - which i have - just bought a new laptop - and it wont recognise it as a seperate device apart from itunes either.

Is this a fault with my ipad? How do I get my photos off?? thanks

iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, Windows 8

You can try reversing these procedures to enable the Windows functionality: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1500

Do you knonw Photo Stream? You can use it to transfer photos from iPad to computer.

On your iPad: Go to Settings > iCloud > Photos, then turn on My Photo Stream.

On your computer:

  • Open iCloud for Windows 4.0 (or iCloud Control Panel) and select the checkbox for Photos.
  • Click the Options button and make sure that My Photo Stream is on and adjust the settings.
  • Click Apply when you're done.

I'm not sure what you mean about PhotoSync requiring you to sync with iTunes. If the photos are on your Mac, all you do is install the companion program on your Mac (free download here:http://www.photossync-app.com/photosync/en/downloads.html), then open PhotoSync on your iOS device and they will find each other over your network.

But at any rate, I'm glad you found something that worked for you.

Well, it is easy to transfer photos from iPad to PC by enabling iCloud Photo Library. Go to settings > iCloud > Photo's > iCloud photo library. If so, you can safe some space by using optimize iPhone storage in that same settings panel. And you can import the pictures by logging in your iCloud account.Well, it is easy to transfer photos from iPad to PC by enabling iCloud Photo Library.
