how can I transfer photos from ipad - pc if pc doesn't recognise device as harddrive?

I have synced my ipad to laptop with windows 8 on itunes - but I cant get the photos to copy across so I can delete them from ipad.

I have also tried this - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 - to transfer images but my laptop doesnt recognise the ipad as a hard drive and therefore as a device to import the images from.

I have an ipad 2 - which I have had for a few years and have never been able to get the photos off (have over 20k) and I went to the Apple store and they suggested I try different laptops - which i have - just bought a new laptop - and it wont recognise it as a seperate device apart from itunes either.

Is this a fault with my ipad? How do I get my photos off?? thanks

Have you tried:

iOS: Unable to import photos to computer

Have you tried another computer?

Have you installed any camera or scanning software?

Hi, thanks, I have tried all of this, my ipad is not recognised as a device in the device manager anywhere, other than in iTunes.

This is the 4th computer/laptop i have tried to import my photos too, so I am going to conclude that its a fault with my ipad.

Yes, I have a brand new cable - got it last week as my cat chewed the original!

I'm ready to throw my ipad out the window. 😐

Another option. Use Dropbox to move your photos.

Thanks for your help, have tried the dropbox method but transferring 20k+ photos one at a time...? Aint nobody got time for that.

Have you tried a WiFi transfer app? That is what I use to move photos to/from iPad and my laptop.

Connect your iPad to your computer and start your camera or image capture application. It's the application you use to transfer photos from a camera to your PC. Your PC will recognize your iPad as a camera for the transfer of photos to the PC.

Hi thanks for your response, thats the normal solution, however my ipad is not recognised as a device under the camera upload app. Its only detected thru itunes. Hence my problem. Thank you :)
