Hardware failure and apple support

I guess my previous post was against the rules. I really feel like apple should have done more than give me their rear end to kiss for a computer product that failed prematurely... the only suggestions offered was to purchase another along with apple care... why should i, when they wouldnt even as a valued customer do something for me that they could have very easily done? Im very disappointed at the outcome of my visit to the store on help with my ipad. Im sorry if you feel so negative against my feeling of your poor handling with the situation but im being honest and expressing my opinion as i should be able to as a forum member and a customer who has purchased numerous products from your company. So my question is how did apple handle your ipad premature failure issues that was maybe 1 to 2 months out of warranty????

You are not addressing Apple here. This is a user-to-user support forum. You can address Apple at: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

EDIT:

Sorry, you are asking US how Apple handled out-of-warranty service. I have no expectation that a product I buy will be serviced for free after the warranty has expired.

What is the issue with your iPad?

Wow, Phil...I never said they should make an exception for ME. Not sure where that attitude is coming from...

I am just sharing my experience with the iPad and suggesting that the quality of the product may not be in line with the price. I have never had any issues with any other electronic devices (which I know I am lucky!!), but even my Toshiba laptop that is nine years old (that I paid $300 for) is still up and kicking.

Luckily, I just found out that my credit card company doubles the warranty on purchases of electronic items, so it looks like I'll be covered by them. 🙂

Just came back from the Apple store with a declaration that my ipad 4, a year and 3 months old, has had a hardware failure. No Applecare and OOW, my only options are get a new one or pay $299 for a replacement. Very angry right now but it's irrelevant as I'm still left with a $729 brick.

Interestingly, after many years of purchasing Apple products, the competition has grown and it may time to reconsider other manufacturers. I'm not saying they'll be better, but as Apple products seem to be going down in quality TO ME, it may be time to look around.

And this all happens as I start an ipad project for work.

I am having the same problem. My iPad 4 is 1 year, 7 months old. I've taken impeccable care of it, and just last week I started having display issues and it would just continually restart itself. Took it to the Apple store, and they said it was a hardware failure and there was nothing they could do because it was out of warranty. I wonder how common this issue is? I feel burned after spending so much on it--I expected it to last more than a year and 7 months!!!!

Apple sold over 14 million iPads in Q4 2013. A few are going to have problems. Maybe you got a lemon, but Apple doesn;t really have an obligation to replace it out of warranty. The Out Of Warranty Replacement program isn;t something they must do, but they do and it's a good deal. You get what is essentially a new device. New screen, new back, new battery. And a new - albeit short - warranty.

Wow, Twice? I see, they never did say exactly what it was he suspected hardware but the guy wasnt sure he just said it could be but if they took it and worked on it that would be the cost for a hardware replacement (220). I just wish they would have extended an apple care as i have heard from other people with apple products that this was done for them

Thanks for your input, appreciate it. Good point, in this case it was nothing i did, i just was disappointed to see it have problems after barely having it a yr. and given the reputation of apple and its products this is the least of what i expected. I have an emachines desktop from 2002 that has never had any issues and it was a cheap machine, my very first computer....Go Figure!

Yes i understand the concept of and how the new replacement program work. i may be few of many who received a lemon. I just wish they would have accomodated me in this situation. At the end of the day it is what it is. Im doing what i can to get it to function at this point ive taken it apart to see what i can do as i am electronically inclined. I very well may have fixed it. I will find out soon enough. In any event i mite just get a refurbished one with the warranty because i do feel as though their tablet is a cut above the rest hands down

You do understand the Warranty period has en expiration right?

Why would they make an exception for you? Who are you to warrant an exception when other people might not get one?

Exactly why do you deserve an exception to what is clearly specified when you buy the product. 1 year Warrant for any defect not caused by user mis- handling.

You can also purchase Apple care for an extra year of coverage. But I'm sure you will then expect coverage after Apple care expires also.

I wish you good luck in finding another company, that not only gives you 1 year of no questions asked warranty for any not user caused issue, but also gives you the option of acquiring an out of warranty replacement for a fraction of what a new device would cost.

There are also service centers that may be able to repair it. How much it'll cost is up for debate, usually its cheaper to get the replacement.
