So wifi chip was replaced 2-3 weeks ago, n its holding up pretty good!

I've got a question for you guys, was your wifi greyed out from the iOS7 update?

Mine wasn't greyed from ios7, somehow i must have restored from a backup from my old iPhone4 which had IOS6, and the wifi was stuffed up when the backup was on my 4S. So my case is mine didn't grey out from IOS7, mine was from a backup. Which for me is more confusing...

Before i sent my iPhone for wifi replacement i tried the following

.Reset Network settings (NOTHING WORKED)

.Reset All Content and Settings (STILLNOTHINGWORKED)

.Restored with iTunes and set it up as a new iPhone without anyapps (STILL NOTHING)

.Tried DFU MODE and new IPSW (7.1.2) (STILL NO SUCCESS)

SO clearly the issue is just gonna come back again. BECAUSE THE BACKUP HAS RUINED MY 4S!

Is there anyway of removing every single thing on the iPhone so that its just a blank hardware, meaning theres no IOS software to run it?

Nope, this doesn't work either. I saw this on reddit, bookmarked it and tried it twice to no avail. Only cheap solution is the hair dryer method which will work until the next time the device is overheated by heavy downloads, charging, normal use etc. If it becomes overheated, the wifi which is a source of extra heat will become flagged as such and will not work. I do agree that editing wifi.plist will change the grayed out toggle but all that does is allow the wifi and drivers to attempt to activate in the background. In the meantime, the device is continually writing failed attempt/install logs which will add up to the tune of gigabytes in a matter of minutes. During that process of trying to initiate the wifi/drivers, the device chokes to a crawl. Hopefully someone will eventually figure out which plist file needs editing to get around the hair dryer method. It's probably a plist that has to do with temp or power but could be a combination of those and wifi plist.

This problem is such ********. My wireless stopped functioning immediately after updating to iOS 7. Wouldn't you know my phone just went out of warranty at that time. I thought that it must be a software issue since it coincided with the OS upgrade, but I find out that the only way I could get it working again (temporarily) was to put it in the frickin freezer in a plastic bag for 15 minutes. Then I find an article about reflowing the wireless chip. Smells like planned obsolescence to me along with their other tactics like forcing users to update iTunes with new iOS updates. Apple, you're only shooting yourself in the foot if you're doing these things and you will lose. Anyway, for anyone else out there like me, really think twice before trying to fix this with the DFU reset. That doesn't work and it took a long *** time. Had to download the NEW OS which is now iOS 8 as well as the new iTunes because you can't start your phone without connecting it to iTunes and it has to be the NEW iTunes. Such ******** and I'm so ******.

Another thing:

After upgrading to iOS 7, I couldn't turn my phone off anymore! Powering off the phone would only restart it and the only way to turn it off was to let the battery drain all the way. So this will effectively force me to always keep my phone on with this new OS that drains my battery faster causing more charging cycles and speeding up the time until my battery will no longer hold a charge. Great job Apple. Way to stick it to your customers. 😉

Got to register both mine and my daughter's 4's iPhones, working perfectly well before up-grade and then no wi-fi, tried every re-install, restore and re-set, and nothing.. Called Apple and 25 minutes later I was told to go to the store where it was purchased with some ****-and-bull European warranty story, did that and was laughed out of the shop.

My only conciliation is that my mac pro has also been effected badly by Yosemite.. *** Apple??? after 25 years of loyalty give us a break!!!

Hello my name is Pedro , I got the iPhone 4s 16gb , and once I updated to iOS 8 I got a surprise , the well known greyed out WiFi. I tried to find an answer , and those freezer/hair dryer solutions were way to ******** ( they might work but w/e ) , so I NEVER tried them , I connect my iPhone to my pc everyday , and one lovely day my WiFi wasnt greyed out , still no networks found , couple of days later it started to find networks ( now you think : the iPhone was somehow healing it self? Looks like it was ) , still it could not connect to any network , couple days later it connected to my network ( I forgot to turn my WiFi off when I noticed that it was finding WiFi networks ) , the connection lasted for like 5 mins then my network stop being found , the wifi connection started to last longer from day to day ( rememeber that I connect my iPhone to iTunes every day ) , and now my WiFi works perfectly with the same 8.1.2 iOS version. Anyone else experienced this WiFi miracle?

Thanks in advanc
