Just for the case anyone else will find the way to this thread:
We've talked intensively about this problem with the Apple business sales representants visiting us one time a year: Apple won't implement this feature in the future iOS Versions because its not available at the most US-Carriers.
Disappointed by that, many big carriers (like my employer) set up a second delivery notification service that allows to query these notifications by sms without apple's implementation. T-Mobile customers worldwide can add *T# (Star{Cap T}Pound) before the actual message to get an instant delivery report. German customers using Vodafone, E-Plus or o2 can do that with *N# (Message)
Hope it helps, have a nice weekend.
I can see some people here just hard to say "yes, ios works as the way it is, and ios disables sms delivert report."
I'm supporting SMSC (short message service centers) for the last 4 years. So what I will now tell is something what I know very well. First of all, so called SMS delivery reports refer to GSM Phase 2 delivery reports. In other words that technology is a standard and normally all the SMSCs support it. What the cell-phone needs to do to get that report is just to set a special flag (that is set it 1) when a message is submitted. SMSC receives the message, recognizes report request and sends it to the phone when the message has been delivered. The phone of course must be capable of processing that report, otherwise whatever may happen when unsupported type of message is received.
The funny thing about that is that commcenter software of iphone does support delivery reports. It was discovered by those guys who jailbreack iphones and create a software to extend iphone capabilities. They checked the commcenter code and found out delivery reports are basically supported but not used any how.
In my understanding, there is no reason for Apple not to support delivery reports. I respect USA market, but considering that major cellular operators of North America do not support the feature, Apple shouldn't forget that iphones are sold not just in USA but worldwide. So I believe it is something like a marketing issue which has nothing to do with the technical details
The only thing we customers can do to track a message status is to order GSM Phase 1 reports. It is a regular message which usually contains a text like "Your message to number XXX has been delivered successfully", or "Your message to number XXX is expired" etc. However such notifications may not be supported by operators, because that notification type is not a standard but a pure feature which operators had implemented a long time ago in 1990s to give subscribers more comfort
Can't get a delivery report for my SMS on my Iphone 6. Can Apple fix/update this SMS delivery report problem?
Before anyone answers that this is a carrier problem, it's NOT a carrier/Network problem. It works perfectly fine with ALL phones except Iphones. My Carrier supports delivery notification. It works fine with other Smart phones, EXCEPT Iphones. Delivery Notification report also works with ordinary Nokia, Samsung, and ALL other phones EXCEPT Iphone.
Did you read the thread? I believe you didn't. It's absolutely clear that Apple IOS does not support delivery reports regardless of carrier, that option is just absent. And since we all are not Apple engineers nor managers, so no one will let you know whether they're going to fix/update that problem.
Ok Thx.
I'm new. How do we suggest Apple engineers or managers to fix the problem? any suggestions?
You can only submit a feedback on the apple site. From my experience it is absolutely useless, but you can try. Apple evolves by its way and user experience and wishes are not something what is taken into account. 😉 Apple always believes they better know what the customers need, and never cares if it's true or not 😉
Thx, once again. I will try to search an SMS App for Iphone. I was using, 'Handcent' App for sending SMS in my Android.
Fantastic App !!!.
You can customize it and has a lot more features than the standard SMS App and it's Free. Unfortunately, "Handcent" does not have an SMS App for Iphone.
I use whatsapp and telegram. However sometimes I use "old good" SMS texting because SMS is a part of the cellular standard. You don't just pay for it, a carrier guarantees that delivery attempts will take place within message lifecycle (usually up to 3 days). SMS is the only way to text someone when he or she doesn't have access to internet. Moreover, if one is offline but at some point switches his phone on, then SMS-center will attempt to deliver a message to him immediately as it receives a special alert from the cellular network about changing user state from offline to back online. And this is the great advantage of SMS comparing with any internet-based instant messengers. SMS will be delivered in whatever roaming, when you just disable data in your phone. So, SMS as a service is still more than required in case of guaranteed message delivery need
Handcent App is for "Old Good" SMS texting. If you are also using an Android OS, check it out. It's the best SMS App I have tried so far for Android OS.
I fully agree with you that SMS has many advantages compared with Instant based Messaging.
I use Whatsapp as well and have installed Telegram, although I don't use Telegram as much.
you can use the free ios app called SMS + delivery report
http://appcrawlr.com/iphone/sms-delivery-reports .
1) Its a pity that still in ios 8.2 apple does not care about this missing feature.
2) Its a pity that apple worshipers spend time and fill this forum with useless answers of how we should buy a different device because iphone is perfect and cannot be improved.
3) its a pity that apple support does not respond with valid answers to their $600+ customers.
1) You are not addressing Apple here. This is a user to user support forum, and speculating about what Apple does or does not care about is a violation of the TOS which you agreed to when you came to the forum.
2) Those answers are provided to people that make the statement that; "it is available on my Android device".
3) You won't get an answer from Apple here because they do not participate in the forum. See 1).

Which I'm sure will be an excellent option for those folks who have service with the relatively few carriers that app supports (none in the U.S., by the way).
