Re: How can I get delivery report on SMS foe iPhone 4S ios7.1......please helpin response to the-Beloved
My understanding is SMS read receipts are available on iPhones if the service provider offers it but since I am in the US where no carrier offers it I have no way to check this.
Hi,
Not true, t-mobile supports SMS(text) delivery reports.
I have iphone6 this phone don't show any delivery report. on the same network I have Galaxy S4 that shows SMS delivery report.
This is correct. I have T-Mobile for all of my phones. Two are Android and one is a 6+.
The two Android phones support delivery reports. Those phones are the Note 4 and the Note Edge. It works perfectly on T-Mobile.
Did not know that, at the time I posted I was told it was not available. I'll amend future posts to include that information and suggest if people need that feature they should get a T-Mobile account with a supporting phone. The one person I knew who had an Android phone on T-Mobile did not have that feature.
Not sure why you had to respond three times though.
As a telco employee I can tell you categorically that it's a phone feature. If your phone doesn't let you turn on delivery reports you can't have them - we can't switch them on for you, you do it yourself through your phone.
I was googling how to enable SMS delivery reports, I ended up in this thread. I don't want to join this forum because I just need and answer, until I found this super annoying users, Meg St._Clair. One important point about this forum we can share our experience and get help or provide help from other users. Meg St._Clair, what are you doing here is extremely not helping. You are too afraid to realize that iPhone didn't have this feature. This is basic GSM function. And telling that it is provider feature is not smart. 99,9% devices out there have this feature, the only 0,1% that don't support that is the iPhone. That feature is very helpful, that let you know that your SMS is not delivered. When you tell us that you want to disable that feature so people don't know you have read their message or not, it's make me laugh. That showing us you don't understand the topic. GSM only support delivery reports, not read reports, read report is MMS feature which require cellular data. And you always says that people will get that feature when provider support that, I am telling you, we talking about SMS, not iMessage. Because SMS only support delivery report and not require cellular data. And if it's provider feature, show me which iPhone support that. Prove it! you will never find it. I know we can't get use iMessage for that feature, but not all my contacts using iPhone, even if all my contacts using iPhone, I can't make sure they enable their cellular data or on good network.
So when people give you factual information you don't want to hear they are super annoying? Is that what you are saying?
She provided the link to send feedback to Apple to ask them to add that feature. Did you use it? She is writing from the perspective of a US resident (and of course Apple is a US company). When the iPhone was originally released it was exclusively on AT&T which does not offer SMS read receipts so Apple did not include the feature. They haven't since then. They have sold fairly well despite not having this feature.
Oh deggie, of course you are, you are just like her, and other people called TJBUSMC1973First of all, I do send feedback on that page. Keep posting not-helpful and useless answer over and over again when you don't get the answer what this thread needed is annoying. Depending your false argument is really annoying. You keep telling us SMS has read reports when it is iMessage feature is defineatly false argument. And your argument that iPhone has that feature is totally wrong, I live in Indonesia, all provider support that feature, my previous phone(which is using the same SIM card as my current iPhone) and this feature is not there. Do you join this forum to help people? The problem is not Apple, the problem is you. We just need an answer how to enalble it. if it's not there, so be it. We have send feedback, and just waiting they release this super basic function. And maybe they can make worlwide version is slightly different from US version, some othe change maybe that super basic function. But maybe this is my last comment, because I already have had the answer, which is iPhone doesn't support this feature. I just join this forum because I was really sick of annoying people like you and your friends. Best regard from Borneo Island.

Is everybody on Borneo Island as rude as you are? And not smart enough to only reply once?
I never said the iPhone has or doesn't have SMS read receipt, I said some time back (you are late to this) I said that I was with a carrier that DOES NOT offer read receipts on any phones (I came to the iPhone from a Palm Treo and Nokia prior to that) so I had no way to check anything about that. How is that a false argument.
There is nothing more that can be done here than to direct people to the feedback link. I reminded you of that link as you didn't say if you had sent anything or not. Was I supposed to read your mind that you had done so?
So what would you like me to post here that will not annoy you? I can suggest you buy a different phone and use SMS read receipt on it. Will that help?
I am sorry I have to go back to this forum, deggie, first pf all you are failed to understand that GSM or 2G doesn't have read report, it's only delivery report. Read report first appear on MMS which require cellular data, and many of instant messaging include iMessage has follow this feature. This is a false argument that you keep depend. You once said on page 3:
First, as I said then that was what I heard but I clearly had some doubts because I said I could not check it. It did not say whether it was or not available.
Second, are you able to read dates? Look at the date of my first post and Meg's. At the time we posted T-Mobile did not offer that service. Apparently now they do (I don't use them or know anyone with a phone that might be able to do this on T-Mobile) so I cannot say that for certain. I know that my carrier does not offer it.
How is this problem me? And not Apple. Am I blocking iPhones from doing something that will allow iPhones to do SMS read receipts.
This is a user to user forum. No one from Apple here. So if anyone who joins this thread in the future (and it really doesn't have much activity so this must not be as popular a feature as some here think) wants Apple to consider implementing this feature then they need to send their request to the feedback link. If they absolutely need to have SMS read receipts ASAP then they should consider a different model phone.
What else do you want here? What do YOU suggest people should do here? Or are you only good at criticizing others?
The problem with Forums like this is that the service providers (in this
case Apple) do NOT take them seriously. Apple would help this discussion (a
lot) by participating DIRECTLY and telling us why they do not think the
"SMS delivery notice system" is necessary for iPhone users when contacting
non-iPhone friends and relatives. It would help and avoid the insults that
are flying around the forum right now. This (the insults) is made worse
when self-righteous people contribute more than 1,000 times in the forum to
the point they can DISMISSIVELY say the "SMS delivery system is NOT
necessary" - read rude contribution from Meg St_Clair. This person does NOT
know what we (who know what SMS delivery notices are and how helpful these
notices are because we have been using them on other devices which are NOT
iPhones) are talking about! These notices are freely available and
UBIQUITOUS all over the world!! and America is NOT the world by-the-way
(not even a tenth of it. This Meg St_Clair thinks her rude interjections
are helpful, yet she does NOT know what she is talking about. She can't
know what an SMS delivery notice is if she has never seen one because she
uses only an iPhone! How intelligent is that?
Also, Apple is supposed to be a worldwide Company. Is anybody then claiming
that a Company formed by the great visionary, the late Steve JOBS, could be
so myopic that they would hold on to what they were doing when they first
came onto AT&T donkey years ago? I don't think so. This is 2015! Great
Companies evolve. Apple KNOW what is happening worldwide. Yes, I agree with
them that iPhones are a great product but some of my relatives do not want
to use iPhones. Apple should be pro-active enough to realise that when we
(iPhone users) contact non iPhone relatives, we need facilities like "SMS
delivery notices." Is it too much to ask?
Please, before anybody replies with their vocal/verbal diarrhea please note
that we are NOT interested in your rude interjections and insults from
people who are so shortsighted and blinkered as to fight above products
that they know nothing about. We (non-Americans) operate on the basis of
respect. Therefor any disrespect directed towards me will receive the
cold-shoulder it deserves because such insults are nothing but LOUD
shallowness. The fact remains - iPhones currently do NOT have SMS delivery
notices. It is therefor up to Apple to open their eyes and see the raging
discussion around this matter on THIS forum and address the matter
directly. I personally believe this has been a terrible oversight from a
very great Company, Apple
Enough from people commenting about things they know nothing about!
Please!!!!!!!
On 5 August 2015 at 22:00, Apple Support Communities Updates <
Apple does take it somewhat seriously, it is the second largest one of its type and costs a lot of money to operate. But in the Terms of Use it makes it very clear that this is a user-to-user technical support site. There are some Community Specialists here who respond to questions that have gone unanswered for 24 hours and there are moderators here. But Apple executives do not participate here so there is no way to get an answer to your question as to why Apple does not support this (and it wasn't supported when Mr. Jobs was around). Even if you wrote to the Apple corporate offices (see "Contact Us" at the bottom right of this page for the address) you will not get an answer. This was the corporate environment Mr. Jobs implemented, of absolute secrecy, and the National Security Agency wishes they had this level of security.
The normal Apple mode will be if there is enough feedback asking for SMS delivery notification they will add it without any fanfare or announcement and someone will find it in a future version of iOS. It worked this way with MMS and several other features that were eventually added. So the more people that send feedback the higher the likelihood the feature would be added. This thread actually has minimal participation for this thread (requests for MMS ran to 100's of pages) so Feedback would be the way to go. As to Meg, you assume that she is not familiar with other phones but you would be incorrect. But I believe she has used either Verizon or Sprint, neither of which offer this feature.
I've never used it either (AT&T) and I'm not familiar with the details but I would only like to see it added if I have the option to turn it off on my end. You tell me if that is possible if you would please.

Wow! You joined this forum just because of me?!?! Awwww, that's so sweet. 😉
deggie, you do not stop make me laugh by saying "SMS read receipt", how many time I should told you that GSM only support delivery report, for READ report at least we need GPRS connectivity. It doesn't take a genious to decide that this feature is not supported by iPhone after 3 page of thread. It doesn't take an hour for you in 2014 to recognize that when people around the world telling you that their previous device support delivery report but not in their iPhone. But you keep depending your argument. Of course the problem are all of you who posted many times just to depending your iPhone is perfect and too afraid to recognize that this feature not supported by iPhone. This thread should be ended in 1 or 2 page if people like you don't make it worse by keep depending your argument which is you don't what it is about. Defineatly you and your friend know nothing about delivery report and how it works.
Is it also take a genious to understand why the problem are you and not Apple? Apple made a great product, we came to this forum just to know HOW to enable it (If it is supported), of course we do not need to contact Apple if the feature are there. This is how this forum should work, users share their experience to help other users. But if it's not there, case close. Okay let's end up this thread by saying " SMS delivery report is not supported by worldwide iPhone and iOS 8.4 in 2015" this might help other user when they come with similar question.
