The worst thing about that is that short message delivery report is a part of MAP protocol used to submit and receive short messages. In other words it is a standard which all the phones must support fully. It was reported several times that iphone hardware supports delivery reports as well as the CommCenter does. The only reason there is no that feature implemented in Messages app is Apple vision according to which only Facetime supports delivery and read confirmations.

UMTS or GSM, it's not important. SMSC should support status reports phase 2 which are known as delivery reports that we can order through activating a special parameter in message settings in all the phones except for iphone. There is a good workaround for the iphone owners: some cellular operators support delivery reports phase 1. Such a report is in fact a text message that SMSC generates to let the user know that a message was delivered or whatever else happened to it. But that feature does depend on the operator, while phase 2 reports are supported by the most of cellular operators (at least in Europe) By default.

After reading the entire topic, i was sure surprised!

First i will maoke sure that every ne know about what "can"t deliverd mesage, retry means"

it means that your phone can't reach gsm network and can't send any message or call.

it is not a delivery report !

After i was searching an clear explanation for every one to explane why like in france you have delivery report withaout text code.

Simply, it's cause of GSM standards use by all phones ! For sure it's note a provider problem because they all use GSM networks.

The only problem is the Message app on iphone.

Message do not read all status of sms send over network.

I know that JB iphone using alternative message app received all delivery report. ( biteSMS is a good one)

And if Apple wants to make us happy they can read this short page about how natively sms delivery report works to implement it.

http://www.activexperts.com/sms-component/sms/gsmdeliveryreports/

That will be Smart for a Smartphone.

If you have read this entire thread, you'll know that Apple isn't reading here. Use the feedback link for anything you want them to see.

I think, though, it's a pretty safe bet that Apple knows how to implement any features possible on a cell phone. What you're seeing in an iPhone is the result of Apple's choices.

I understand the point of Eaglelinux seeing level10 community members saying "call your carrier" or others nonsense... Sure he works in a carrier service !

It must be frustrating to see people rejecting the fact that, as you says Meg, it's an Apple choice

Every one must tell apple using feedback link to use delivery report in Message app it's an old basic for a phone!

It is not a "old basic" for a phone. It is a carrier exclusive. It seems it is also a geographic thing. Many of the carriers have it as a default in Europe, while in the US it is not offered.

It is your opinion that everyone must tell Apple. To be honest, I don't like it, and if it was ever added, I would hope that it would be off by default. Most of the people that I communicate with are iOS users, so I have iMessage. It shows Delivered, but to be honest, I don't really pay attention to it.

Agreed! I also keep show read status off for iMessages. People will know that I've read their messages when I tell them I have by responding to them.

I feel the same way. If someone is so worried about my reading and responding to their text, then use the phone to call me, and speak to me if it is that important! The art of human vocal communication is deteriorating quickly because of all of this texting.

There was just a news story on the other day where a Chicago company has No Email day. The email auto responds to tell people the user is at work and that they would love to speak to them and provides their phone number. Administration said it is a monthly way to get people to revive the personal interaction with customers.

I Made a really small mistake cause i forgot about CDMA networks ( less than 20% of the worlwide market).

GSM was created in 1991, CDMA 1995... So it is an old basic even in US.

US have only 2 GMS carriers T Mobile and AT & T.

Some CDMA Carrier have SMS delivery reports like Verizon or Sprint ( hope they not charge you anymore).

I said small mistake cause almost all phones are GSM capable ( iphone include) if you have a SIM card.

If not, your phone is usable only in the very few countries still using CDMA.

If US carrier want's to play with customers as cash cow with charging delivery reports or roaming to GSM it is their problems but for the majority of the world use GSM and GSM delivery report have to be implemented and that is an Apple issue.

Not doing this is like not including samba on Mac OS X... saying in US no one using MS CIFS ! (using NFS just alike imessage/skype and others)

Even more : Using an iphone over a GSM network is like using UDP instead of TCP while downloading an ISO of an FreeBSD on my server!

I hope you see the references to explain the non sense on not including delivery report in message app regarding how the world is working.
