Iphone 5s battery drains fast after ios 7.1 update.

Am I the only one who seems to be experiencing this? My iphone 5S battery seem to drain much faster than usual, and charge longer. I heard that the new update is supposed to increase battery life, and read comparison threads regarding other iphones that are capable of a much better battery life than mine.

I've had my phone for 3 months, never have dropped it once or anything of the sort, if that matters. My battery drains to 50% within an hour or so after intense use on the lowest level of brightness, and I seem to lose about 5-7 percents when on standby for 5 hours or so. Is this normal? Is it perhaps due to the fact that I am mostly using 3g, and applications that require more processing such as tumblr (graphics and gifs) as well safari? I'm just worried that my battery may be draining to quick, despite the update which's supposed to make it much better according to many people.

Thanks.

IOS 7.1 provides poor battery life on 5s, was getting 4 hours using mainly 3g, apple advertise upto 8 hours. I fixed it by getting a replcement 5s however i still only get 6.5 hours, no where near 8 hours, thats on ios 7.0.6. I have the below set off: auto downloads, push notifications off, background app refresh off, auto brigtness on, tryed settting as new iphone too, didn't fix it. Apple need to deliver with the iphone 6 and set realistic customer expectations when it comes to quoting battery life. Can't fault Apples customer service though. 😍

I've tried restoring my iphone 5 from a backup on my computer and a second time from an icloud backup. My batter life is still horrible.

Before the update, my phone would still be around 40% after an 8 hour day. Use included streaming audio for an hour, sending and receiving a couple dozen texts, sending and receiving a couple dozen emails, and checking a few website sites.

Even after both resets, my battery is dead before I'm done with work. Today, all I've done is streamed 20 minutes of audio and spent a few minutes looking at some websites and my battery is down to 80% after an hour of coming off the charger.

I'm hoping this works. I've tried everything else including completely wiping and starting my phone from scratch, only importing my contacts from my iCloud and reconfiguring my apps on the device. this includes shutting off all reminders, location services, etc. battery life flies off the shelf. so maybe the simplest solution will end up being the one that works. would really tick me off if my brand new (2 month old) iPhone 5s 32Gb was gonna be so tempermental. I havn't even upgraded my iPhone 4s that i'm using for an ipod/apps right now incase it's got similar issues. this has become a very time consuming thing to try to resolve. hope Apple clues in to all the feedback and gets the kinks worked out!

Just adding my name to battery killing update ios 7.1. I've owned my Iphone 5s for about 1 month. The battery lasted typically a day and a half with heavy usage (surfing, gaming, texting). Now, this morning I unplugged my phone at 7am; it's 9:10am and I'm at 85% without having used it AT ALL (no calls, texts, nothing). This is not a Settings problem.

Is it possible to downgrade the update to previous ios? I'm still in ios 7.05 (thats not 7.06 and thats strange to me too). But i get a juicy battery, nearly 2 days of usage and standby without playing games. Just texting, line,BBM, some calling, and check some applications. In hours my iphone 5s can lasts up to 40-43 hours.

Adding my name to the ever increasing list!

I am also experiencing unusual battery drain on my iPhone 5. It doesn't seem to matter what I do it's the same the battery drains at the same rate. I have tried the following -

1, turned off all data connections

2, turned on airplane mode

3, System reset

4, System wipe and restored from back up

5, System wipe and setup as new phone

6, New battery

And lots of other little things.

As I said it doesn't matter what I turn on, turn off, change, delete or install it drains at the same rate.

My wife has the same phone (except white) bought at the same time and it works fine.

My phone drains at roughly 3 times the rate of hers. I might as well leave it permanently charging.

Not sure if it has anything to do with iOS 7.1 as I had that for a while before experiencing a problem.

It's out of warranty by 6 months and I would send it to apple but they want £270!

At least now I know I'm not the only one which makes me feel a little better.

FunkyFearny and all,

Since battery life gets better for some under 7.1, myself and my wife included, I believe this is a software problem. Perhaps a runaway app that uses too much CPU, perhaps an app that hogs location services, perhaps something hogging background app refresh.

So here are the suggestions repeated once again:

1. Hard reset hold both buttons until Apple logo appears.

2. Restore from an iTunes sync and backup. This made a difference for me, battery life got much better.

3. Limit push notifications to those you really need.

4. Limit location services to those you really need, and watch to see if the indicator comes up.

5. Get the app System Activity Monitor to look for a runaway process that is using a lot of CPU.

6. Suggestion by others to reset all settings.

7. Suggestion by others that iCloud may be involved, and to try to turn off some iCloud settings.

8. Limit or turn off background app refresh.

9. Start using apps slowly, to try and identify an app that is misbehaving under 7.1

You can blast Apple all you want, but I believe if you do things carefully you can get battery life at least as good as under 7.0.x

Thanks Nathan,

I have tried most of your suggestions do a degree but there are two things that really confuse me.

1, I have wiped my iPhone and started using it as if it was a new phone, as in no backup and no apps apart from the pre installed Apple apps. I then compared the battery drain with my wife's phone and it was still the same. Which brings me to my second point-

2, My wife has the same phone and hers is ok.

It's very weird and annoying.
