Iphone 5s battery drains fast after ios 7.1 update.

Am I the only one who seems to be experiencing this? My iphone 5S battery seem to drain much faster than usual, and charge longer. I heard that the new update is supposed to increase battery life, and read comparison threads regarding other iphones that are capable of a much better battery life than mine.

I've had my phone for 3 months, never have dropped it once or anything of the sort, if that matters. My battery drains to 50% within an hour or so after intense use on the lowest level of brightness, and I seem to lose about 5-7 percents when on standby for 5 hours or so. Is this normal? Is it perhaps due to the fact that I am mostly using 3g, and applications that require more processing such as tumblr (graphics and gifs) as well safari? I'm just worried that my battery may be draining to quick, despite the update which's supposed to make it much better according to many people.

Thanks.

Hello, I am 13 and here to share a solution I just discovered today. 4/7/14. First, I restarted my phone and afterwards I went to Settings>Cellular and disabled 4G, next, I turned off AirDrop. Next, turned off Location Sevices in Privacy. Next, I disabled Push Notifications apps that I did not need notifications from in Notification Center. Finally, I turned off Bluetooth. I'm not sure if it will work perfectly on other iPhone 5s'

. But it did increase my Battery Life. Hope this will help. =)

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a fix. My iPhone 5s was getting acceptable battery life until about 4 weeks ago. I was getting anywhere from 5-6 hours depending on how I was using the phone. Not great and a long way away from what Apple claims is possible with the phone but it was at least good enough to get me through a normal day without having to charge it until I went to bed.

I hadn't updated anything recently or changed any settings or changed my usage patterns. I now get about 3 hours of usage and that includes a good amount of listening to locally stored music and podcasts. I don't use my phone for games and I'm not a heavy social media user. Email set to fetch and all the usual battery saving tips and tricks that we've become accustomed to in order for the phone to last a full day.

Restarted, rebooted, restored from backup, restored and set up as new phone with everything added back in manually. Phone bleeds 3% per hour on standby with a maximum usage of about 3 hours. Wiped the phone with nothing on it except what it came out of the box with, 3% per hour on standby, maximum usage around 3 hours. Exact same results in airplane mode, no difference at all.

Apple says their diagnostics show that everything is just fine with the phone...

So, either there is a hardware fault that doesn't show on diagnostics or there is a bug deep in the power management that can't be fixed by even clean restores.

Sorry for the wall of text but I had to vent a bit, just incredibly frustrating to be tied to a wall charger or battery case or battery pack all day. I saw the Samsung commercial the other day about the "wall huggers" and certainly hit a chord with me.

But really what you are doing is just shutting off all the features, you are not using anything bluetooth, not using any locations services which are needed by a lot of people. What you need to understand is that many of the people on this thread, and many others, had NO issue with battery life at one point...through apple software upgrades they end up suddenly having terrible battery drain...doing exactly what they were doing before. I do not want to buy a phone where I turn all the features off so it doesnt drain in three hours...make sense?

It is amazing to read through this chain of posts and see how loyal apple customers who purchased a piece of high-tech are forced to behave as "magicians" sharing tricks and ideas just to have their phones perform as intended during few hours a day.

I arrived in this forum as everybody else: after a first period of satisfactory battery performance I started to have your same problem: battery draining fast, at least by my standards; however for the carrier I got the phone from 5 to 6 hours stand-by time (from fully charged to off) is good compared to other customers who get less than this.

After applying most of the suggestions listed here: "The Ultimate Guide to Solving iOS Battery Drain http://www.overthought.org/blog/2014/the-ultimate-guide-to-solving-ios-battery-d rain" and here: "Background App Refresh Explained in Layman's Terms http://www.overthought.org/blog/2014/background-app-refresh-explained" I eventually read the June 8 post by smate333: absolutely brilliant! The best way to consistently reduce battery consumption is to switch the phone off: since 13 hours I have 99%!

And in the event I need to turn the phone on I have purchased a mophie juice pack. So the circle is closed: a very nice piece of technology is put inside a bulky and heavy battery pack.

I have several iPods, two iPads and a useless iPhone 5s. Sorry Apple but this is not the way to foster customers' loyalty!

Hello Everyone,

I am back from vacation and waiting for a call back from Apple regarding the findings about my phone. They have been great in keeping in touch with me (I was away for 2 weeks and just got back Monday), and hope to receive a call from them on Friday. I have again given them this message string/URL as well.

I will post after I hear back from Apple.
