Iphone 5s battery drains fast after ios 7.1 update.

Am I the only one who seems to be experiencing this? My iphone 5S battery seem to drain much faster than usual, and charge longer. I heard that the new update is supposed to increase battery life, and read comparison threads regarding other iphones that are capable of a much better battery life than mine.

I've had my phone for 3 months, never have dropped it once or anything of the sort, if that matters. My battery drains to 50% within an hour or so after intense use on the lowest level of brightness, and I seem to lose about 5-7 percents when on standby for 5 hours or so. Is this normal? Is it perhaps due to the fact that I am mostly using 3g, and applications that require more processing such as tumblr (graphics and gifs) as well safari? I'm just worried that my battery may be draining to quick, despite the update which's supposed to make it much better according to many people.

Thanks.

A week before the latest ios updates for my phone, it was dying at an alarming rate of no use in 5 hours or less. At that point I figured it was time to go through the darn thing and delete apps, turn off background refreshing, and even turn off location services. It ultimately allowed my phone to return to normal, making me chalk things up to faulty app updates and the like. However, once the latest update came through, my changes had made zero effect on the the operating systems, hellbent mission to destroy the battery in record time. With multiple attempts to restore it from either iTunes or iCloud to bypass the issue, no change was found.

Frustrated, I took it in to the Apple store to see if this could be repaired.... which they ended up just replacing it with a new phone. Once again I chalked things up to "faulty updates." Did things change? This isn't a Cinderella story I've got here! Not even in the possession of the phone for 24 hours and it's still doing the same shenanigans. I'm sure I've angered a cruel and angry god of Apple updates, but all I can do at this point, reading over these many posts in reply, is hope Apple has mercy and creates a new update to fix this.

Everything posted is correct, nothing works, it is a weird IOS issue. What is funny, or not, depending on your view is I have a ton of friends with iphones with no issue. I tell my wife and daughter "DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR SOFTWARE". your phone works fine, dont do it, you are just asking for trouble. it is an IOS issue, it has to be. I thought at some point that is could have been that my phone was dropped once or twice, and perhaps over time something is failing but it continues to work well with the battery draining dramatically. And this is with a new battery. You would like to think that upgrading your software brings new cool features, sometimes it does, but if your phone is working fine, long battery, do NOT upgrade software..it may be fine, but it also may not be...this is especially true for phones out of warranty...in warranty, go for it, if the phone turns bad, make them replace it.

Following all feedback that we have seen here. and since we do not have Apple service center here in UAE.

So what I did i toke the IPhone 5s 16G to the warranty service center (i.e. Authorized Service Provider), after one full week of diagnosing the phone was returned back to me along with a small note saying " Device Os Reloaded - 7.1.2 and Tested, Specs are OK, Please Don't Restore Old Backup".

So to give you idea about the IPhone 5S condition after this process:

- I kept the fresh IOS (As installed by the service center) not a single app installed.

- Turned on Fly Mode in the IPhone 5s and stop touching the phone

- To calibrate, I had another IPhone5 updated with 7.1.2 that has access to 3G and WIFI, apps, email every thing, also i have received some phone calls.

So A simple test (Comparison between consumption over time):

@ 11:36 AM - IPhone 5s battery 82% - IPhone 5 battery 32%

2 hours later

@1:39 PM - IPhone 5s battery 59% - IPhone 5 battery 25%

So as a conclusion IPhone 5s has lost 23% of the battery on full standby 2 hours, while IPhone 5 lost 7 % only.

I will not analyse the reason behind the above as this Apple's job not mine, the bottom line is that Apple fail to comply with its obligation of delivering us (the customers) a phone that actually function as it was announced by them.

I have decided to give up on Apple iphone 5s and searching for a more reliable product.

Since updating to most recent software my iPhone 5s has been nothing short of torturous!

this morning I have the phone plugged into the mains, using flixster to download a film. No other background apps running, Bluetooth turned off and background refresh off, and the only app open is flixster. The battery was still going down! ITS PLUGGED INTO THE MAINS FOR GOODNESS SAKE!

Short of attaching it to its own substation or drop kicking it out of a window I have no idea what to do with it. Please Apple fix this issue ASAP.

MIne is exactly like this 3 hours. On airplane mode, 6 hours standby decreasing battery by 30% while in ipad air standby for 3 days is more or less 1% only (no touching).I had enough with all authorised idiots (genius). They cnt even help.my battery pass diagnostic. So they cant replace anything. How unresponsible apple is with already enough proof so many people have this issue, and they keep telling the customers are delusional. the scale of this issue are international. Apple should make battery replacement program whatsoever to all iphone 5s users. But they keep focusing iphone 6, they dont know without integrity iphone 6 will be useless. Why? Because future users are from iphone 5 or 5s. keep those ignorants attitude please Apple

WHat i dont like is the idiots (geniuses) keep assuming i play 3d games for that 3 hours drain. ive said so many times already im not playing games it is for normal use only, what is normal use? Normal whatsapp time maybe 10 minutes per hour? the idiots keep blaming the customers. Keep saying its up to 10 hours so 1 hour is normal. ***?

What you need to understand is it is NOT the battery, i have replaced my battery twice and the last time Apple said the battery was fine. it is either faulty software operating system, which explains why so many have issues after upgrading their software version......OR, it is some weird hardware issue. IT is not a bad battery in most of these cases.

I've had my phone since Oct. and the batter drains like crazy too. I keep everything to where the battery will be as best as possible, but still nothing. I've called apple and went there and they tell me my phone can't be replaced. I'm very disappointed in this because I love apple and I have other apple products that I don't have a problem with. Someone help.
