Battery drains after installing iOS 7.1 on my iPhone 5

Dear All

Can you please help me out, my iPhone 5 battery drains in 2-3 hours after installing iOS 7.1. I am not rigorous user and also turned off motion option. Since installing 1 day ago I atleast have charge for 10-12 times without so much use.

With iOS 7.0.x, my iPhone just require 1 time charging in whole day with same apps.

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

ZRC.

The problem is long gone. If it just showed up for no reason try the following: disable Location Services and Background App Refresh, let the battery drain until automatic shutdown, fully recharge. If the battery is still draining too fast, try and Erase All Content and Settings and restore from a backup. If this doesn't work, try restoring as new and carefully add back your apps a few at a time. Pay close attention to apps that use location services, as that function seems to be the major cause of battery drain if something causes it to turn on the GPS and neglect to turn it off.

Let us know what happens.

I have the same problem (4s 18 months problems since last update). Have restored from back up - didn't work. Deleted all apps backed up and and restored again - just as bad. I have turned off location services, background refresh, turned off email push and fetch, reduced brightness and all the other suggestions in various articles on the web and even with the resulting reduced functioning of my phone still need to charge 2-3 times a day which means I have had to purchase an external battery and cart it around. My phone is no longer a reliable assistant. Apple - after all these years of being a loyal customer do I now need to go elsewhere to obtain reliability?

Did you follow the other steps I outlined if the first step didn't work?

Make no mistake, that last one is a bear, but it can lead you to a problem app.

If you still have Applecare, keep calling them, get transferred to second level support, and they will eventually offer to replace the phone.

The only bit I haven't done is restoring as new (I restored from back up, then removed all apps, then backed up and restored from back up again). I also reset the phone. All location services turned off. I will now try restoring as new - I didn't want to do that as I have stored a huge number of passwords in an app on the phone, so will need to transfer them somewhere else. But worth a try. Thank you

I just did the Erase All Content and did not restore from icloud. I'm now recharging the ipad. Will see how it goes.

What's odd is how it started all of a sudden seemingly out of nowhere... well, I think I can trace it to when I first started using Airplane Mode about a 1 or 2 weeks ago, it was before I upgraded to 7.1.1.

What's odd is I started using airplane mode on both my 3rd gen ipad and my ipad mini retina at the same time, both were on 7.1.0. When the battery usage on the 3rd gen ipad went to s***, I upgraded both the 3rd gen ipad and the ipad mini retina to 7.1.1 at the same time. But *only* the 3rd gen ipad had sudden battery usage issues. I hate to sound paranoid but could this be apple's "planned obsolescence? (hypothetical question).

7.1.1 cut my battery life but I was able to get it back to normal after doing the bit with Location services etc. It’s odd that using airplane mode would cause this since it turns all radios off.

I don’t buy the planned obsolescence thing. Modern devices go obsolete fast enough on their own and any company caught helping that process along would wind up on the wrong end of a class action lawsuit. I’m just chalking it up to software glitches and a tight programming schedule. Just having a year between OS versions doesn’t leave all that much time for testing.
