IOS 7.1 creates scrolling problem?

Upgraded my UK iPhone 5S 64GB to ios 7.1 yesterday. I have been facing page scrolling problems in all applications (Bloomberg, BBC, Safari, FT, LinkedIn, FaceBook...all applications). The problem is easily reproduced by keeping your finger on the screen when the page to scroll is displayed and moving the finger slowly to scroll the page. The page jumps in direction opposite to the expected.

Hi Redball21, I'm also having the same screen problem, and it always appears when the iPhone is charging. The issue has appeared after updating to 7.1. I'm using an apple charger that came together with the device. I believe it is something that has to be with the updates and not the charger. Did you understand if it is something fixable with next update?

See you!

I don't know when and how it will be fixed, but there seems to be a relation between charging and scrolling.

  • 3rd party chargers may cause the problem
  • Original chargers may cause such a problem if the power outlet is not working properly
  • The issue shows itself on some phones even when not charging

These clues may indicate a power surge problem causing the scrolling issue, whether charging or not. There might be a battery related issue since it surfaces even when not being charged.

However I only get the problem when charging with a specific 3rd party wall charger connected to an original Apple USB cable. However the USB cable is pre-iPad era.

I've only had my phone a few weeks. I did not replace the screen. I'm using the charger it came with. My scrolling issue started after the ios update. It has scrolling issues at all times. Not related to charging. Apple said they would replace my phone if it can't be fixed but there isn't an Apple store nearby. So I have to make a trip to a repair shop they approve and I haven't been able to go yet.

I'm experiencing the same issue on my iPhone 5s iOS7.1. It seems that the top section of the touch screen is buggy in portrait mode. My temporary solution (when possible) is to tilt the phone to landscape mode to hit the button I want to press on top.

Has anyone tried restoring the iPhone from iTunes? Curious if it could help fix the problem or maybe we'll have to wait for an update to iOS7.1

Went to Apple store today. Fingers crossed the below fixes the issue and I can restore from back up.

*Issue: Customer states that ever since 7.1 update, display multitouch has not been functioning properly.

*Steps to Reproduce: Verified in store. Customer stated he created a backup on iTunes and tried restoring the device *then put backup back on device. Positioned erase all content and settings to determine if issue is software or hardware *related. Customer is aware of data loss and is happy to proceed. Issue persisted

*Proposed Resolution: Replace display. Please set device up as a new device and test for any issues with scrolling from *half way down the page.

*Cosmetic Condition: Good condition, not marks or scratches

I Will update on the results

Dear all, I have found a fix for the charging related scrolling problem, but it can be applied to all problems for testing

My problem was occuring when I was using a 3rd party wall charger. I have fixed this issue! I'm not sure if this is the "case" for everyone.

I am using my iPhone 5S with a plastic case, that covers the sides and the back of the phone. When I remove the case, plug it in to the 3rd party charger the scrolling problem dissappears. This is happening because the wrong/irregular current can now flow through the phone into my hand and continue to any place it can go. Hence the charge does not stay in the phone and doesn't mess up the capacitor.

So my solution is to remove the plastic casing and see if the touch screen capacitor behaves normally. Also always use chargers that are sold or approved by Apple. Besides these, remove any casings covering the entire back and sides whenever you are charging.
