There is a download via Cnet.com for a program called CopyTrans Driver from WindSolutions. It will install the AppleMobileDeviceService.exe and the iPhone driver extracted from the latest version of Itunes.

After going through the install. I plugged in my iPhone on my XP system and in installed a new device: a camera with the name of my phone listed under "My computer" I now can open it and transfer my pictures and videos just like before the latest iOS update.

It does leave that fat AppleMobileDeviceService.exe running under processes. You can disable it under Administrative Tools - Services - Right click on Apple Mobile Device - Properties and change Startup type to manual - and on the Recovery Tab change all failures to "Take no Action"

You may want to Uninstall the any apple program left from the CopyTrans Driver, but I would leave the "Apple Mobile Device Support" program installed just in case.

GBling's fix worked fine for me. Good thing too cause I was just about to break the trust loop...physically!

Thanks for the info GBling!

There are apps on the appstore, if you just type in "wifi photo transfer" that allow you to transfer photos to any computer by just typing in the ip address given to you in the app. From there you just click an album and select them all, or click an album and select individual ones (in the one I use).

I understand that the problem goes deeper than that for those who need it for work purposes, but that's just a temporary solution I can think of that might be worth the while until apple gets it together

I am not sure if I am able to distribute any of these files legally as a package so I will just write down the cookbook to create that package for yourself. You can also just leave me an email address for a faster solution.

1. Download Apple iTunes package for Windows XP: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

2. Use 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/download.html) to extract the iTunesSetup.exe into a folder

3. Use 7zip again to AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi inside that new folder

4. Copy the needed driver files into a new folder of you choice (e.g. c:\AppleMobileDeviceDriver):

usbaapl.cat

usbaapl.inf

usbaapl.sys

usbaaplrc.dll

5. Use DPInst (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff544842(v=vs.85).aspx) the Driver Package Installer from Microsoft to install the "Apple Mobile Device USB driver" inside the usbaapl.inf file.

Command line: (/C to see logging output, /Q to display no dialog boxes, /PATH X to point to the driver files in path X, /SA if you do not want to create an entry for the driver under Add/Remove Programs)

dpinst.exe /Q /PATH c:\AppleMobileDeviceDriver

Et voilá .. you got a clean install of the Apple device driver with removal option in Programs without unnecessary services, files or even iTunes. And a working image unload with the WIA Camera and Scanner interface in Windows XP.

Alternatively you can also install the AppleApplicationSupport.msi and AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi from step 2 or use GBlings suggestion to involve another tool to install the drivers for you plus some Apple Device service as already mentioned before if you like crud on your PCs ;-]

This is not just a Windows issue. It's a Mac issue too. Please report the bug to www.apple.com/feedback

I figured out the fix for Mac users having this problem. I connected my iPhone to my iMac and started iTunes. A dialogue came up in iTunes, I OK'd that and then OK'd the usual "Do you trust this Mac" that comes up on my iPhone.

Suddenly Image Capture launched itself and there were all my photos, ready to be downloaded.

APPLE NEED TO FIX THIS.

our customers can not bring up photos on the screen thanks to out computers only being Windows XP 32bit.

if apple can get an update to Fuji that needs to be done ASAP

Read carefully, and see if you get it this time: "APPLE DOES NOT READ THESE FORUMS".

These forums exist for user to user support, they are not the place to look for Apple support or to report problems to Apple. Use the feedback link (http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html ) for that.

Also, several people have posted solutions to this problem above (either install iTunes or the iTunes USB drivers).

For this problem to be fixed in a way that doesn't require installing new drivers on the Windows XP machine would require an iOS software update. I'm pretty sure that Apple won't be releasing another version of iOS 7 unless a serious security vulnerability requires it, so at earliest this will be fixed with iOS 8 in the fall, and even then, I wouldn't hold my breath.
