FCPX Blade cuts are snapping to beginning/end of frame. How do I turn this off?

Hello,

My FCPX preferences are set to show subframes within project timelines.

I would like to make blade cuts within subframes, however when I make a cut with the Blade tool, the cut snaps to the beginning or end of the frame that I am in.

The frame I am in is also highlighted (in the playhead area).

This "snap to frame cut" happens whether I have snapping turned on or off. Seems to be an odd behavior for the snapping tool too, if that is the issue.

FCPX wasn't behaving like these the last time I was making cuts. Is there a preference or something that I need to turn off so that I can make a cut on a subframe?

When in doubt, trash Preferences and reopen FCPX??

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you!
