Why are our iPhones such a POS?

For a third time both iPhones in the house show no storage available despite being cleaned out of music, photos, videos, etc. The apps don't add up to even 1/2 the available storage (16 GB).

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.3

That is way to much, you have corrupted files on your iPhone. Do a Restore from backup and see if it reduces that. If it does not you will need to Restore as a new iPhone and manually reload everything.

That will be the third time. Obviously this isn't an isolated incident.
