after upgrade my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.1 I have no Wifi, after wake up from sleep!!

Hi,

after upgrade my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.1 I have no Wifi, after wake up from sleep!! It takes several minutes until it workes proberly again. I was yesterday already in the Apple store and they made a service install of iOS 7.1, where the complete iOS was installed new instead of just updating it. Also the settings menu is not reacting during this time. somtimes the complete iOS is not reacting. If this occures only a hard rest is solving and then the Wifi stack is working well until is sleeps again. Then the problem starts again.

Does anyone raised already a ticket at apple or has a solution? A downgrade to 6.1.3 is not possible/allowed, but this would help.

I had the same problem and these are the steps I used to fix my wifi from not working. I found this on the net so this is not mine. I did 1-3 and then mine started working and so far so good:

1- iPhone WiFi issues? Reboot your device!

Well, I assume most of you have already tried that but in case you haven’t, simply press and hold the power key along with Home button until you see the Apple logo appearing again. If it solves the iPhone WiFi issues, congratulations. You had it the easiest way!

2- Reset network settings:

Resetting network helps in some 60 – 70% of cases suffering from iPhone WiFi issues. Go to Settings > General > scroll down to Reset, and thentapon Reset Network Settings. If you are on a secure network, it will ask you pass keys.

3- Check router:

Perhaps the issue is not with your iOS 7 updated device, but your internet connection? Before proceeding to the next fix, make sure your network is working fine and so is the router / modem. Try same network on your other devices to ensure that it is working fine.

If all is good with network and network equipment, proceed to the very last option.

4- Restore iPhone – Gah!

If you don’t seem to solve the iPhone WiFi issue using any of the above checkups, final resort is to reset your Apple iPhone. Resetting Apple device sort of cleanses your device so it will come out all clean and error-free like new.

To reset your iOS 7 device, head over to Settings > General > Reset, and tap on the Reset All Settings. You can also reset your device from iTunes. The option Restore iPhone will show up once you connect your device with the computer.

I also tried the reset option- restore from iTunes and set up at a new phone- hard restart - called Apple.

Apple says $199 to fix. iPhone 4s about 15 mos old - so upset I did the 7.1 update a few weeks ago. I'm sure it's the update the messed up my wifi- it is gone - not available - only 4g avail - at end of data ..... :(

I keep searching for different solutions - I don't want to go the freezer route.

My daughter discovered this on her iphone 4S this week after the recent upgrade to IOS7. Both my boyfriend and I live with her and we all have iphone 4s's. We were both able to use our wifi and internet without a problem. I tried every step suggested by others on here and when they didn't work I tried youtube. I found this video that solved the problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nj10bz5bI6A It involves deliberately making your phone overheat by putting a hair dryer on it near the top and waiting for a message saying the phone is too hot and must be shut down. Use a towel to turn your phone off, then put it in a plastic bag and put it in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to cool off. I did this and the wifi worked fine the minute i turned the phone back on. I don't get why it worked but I'll take it. We shouldnt' need to buy a new phone when it worked fine until this and she did nothing to make the wifi not work.

I am also having isses with my 4S wifi/Bluetooth connection. Called Apple Support - tried to reset with ITunes, couldn't even get ITunes to work on my computer. Final step was to reset to factory settings - no help. This phone is less than a month old (replacement for previous phone that had different issues). After 5-hours of "support" no fix was found. Happened to be in CA when first issue started. Support told me to go to the Apple Store for replacement. After traveling for 45-minutes (it's LA) I was told they couldn't see me without an appointment, which Tech Support didn't bother to tell me. I'm back home in MI - closest store is 2-hours away, so now I have to send my phone in for repair or replacement. They (Apple) acted as if they didn't know this was an issue, which they obviously do. I asked for a 5S as replacement and would pay for an upgrade since the 4S has issues, no can do (thanks Apple). They said I would have to pay the retail price, over $500.00 for an upgrade. Sooooo, I am without any kind of phone for 2-3 weeks before Apple decides what to do. Will probably get another phone and end up with the same issue.

I have an Iphone 4 and since my latest update to 7.1.1 my wifi has turned off 90% of the time and defaulted to 3G. I have reset my network settings and done the software reset. Nothing worked. My phone is out of warrantee, how convienent that they send out this update just when they announce that will no longer be sending updates to support this phone. 😟 Well I was at an AT&T store today and they told me that Apple has admitted that this latest update has messed up wifi on many iphones, permanately. So nice of them, huh? Since Steve Jobs passed all is going down hill. They better get back on track!. I want my phone back the way it was without having to upgrade it!

Well after weeks of trying to sort out this problem and trying all of the suggested fixes (including heating and freezing!! really??) I give up. My contract runs out soon - 10 days more of this rubbish - and I'm on my way to a Galaxy not far away!

After my experience of Apple's product support. genius (?) bar and overall tech support I'm gone. It's a shame but I can no longer accept poor quality in any area of (Cr)Apple for what is/was a premium product.

Goodbye!

For me, what worked is changing the SSId name. I was using a MiFi adapter, the SSID was named SOMETHING-333, obviously not something. Nevertheless, by changing the name to something without a dash and number, I believe this makes the device look more like a non public place adapter, and, the auto login went away, as did auto join, and, when iPod or iPad, or iPhone are sleep, they no longer lose their connection.

Someone somewhere had posted that auto join and auto login occur when IOS tries to detect public wifi places. So, on a whim, i changed the name and it worked. iTunes restore did not work for me at least.
