after upgrade my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.1 I have no Wifi, after wake up from sleep!!

Hi,

after upgrade my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.1 I have no Wifi, after wake up from sleep!! It takes several minutes until it workes proberly again. I was yesterday already in the Apple store and they made a service install of iOS 7.1, where the complete iOS was installed new instead of just updating it. Also the settings menu is not reacting during this time. somtimes the complete iOS is not reacting. If this occures only a hard rest is solving and then the Wifi stack is working well until is sleeps again. Then the problem starts again.

Does anyone raised already a ticket at apple or has a solution? A downgrade to 6.1.3 is not possible/allowed, but this would help.

I had the same problem and these are the steps I used to fix my wifi from not working. I found this on the net so this is not mine. I did 1-3 and then mine started working and so far so good:

1- iPhone WiFi issues? Reboot your device!

Well, I assume most of you have already tried that but in case you haven’t, simply press and hold the power key along with Home button until you see the Apple logo appearing again. If it solves the iPhone WiFi issues, congratulations. You had it the easiest way!

2- Reset network settings:

Resetting network helps in some 60 – 70% of cases suffering from iPhone WiFi issues. Go to Settings > General > scroll down to Reset, and thentapon Reset Network Settings. If you are on a secure network, it will ask you pass keys.

3- Check router:

Perhaps the issue is not with your iOS 7 updated device, but your internet connection? Before proceeding to the next fix, make sure your network is working fine and so is the router / modem. Try same network on your other devices to ensure that it is working fine.

If all is good with network and network equipment, proceed to the very last option.

4- Restore iPhone – Gah!

If you don’t seem to solve the iPhone WiFi issue using any of the above checkups, final resort is to reset your Apple iPhone. Resetting Apple device sort of cleanses your device so it will come out all clean and error-free like new.

To reset your iOS 7 device, head over to Settings > General > Reset, and tap on the Reset All Settings. You can also reset your device from iTunes. The option Restore iPhone will show up once you connect your device with the computer.

I have an iPhone 4s on iOS 7.1 and experiencing the same frustraing problem. I attempted it all:

1. Airplane mode on/off

2. Reset network settings.

3. Reset router

4. Reset / wiped the whole iPhone

Wifi still not working. Results in the phone freezing up. Have to reboot around 3 times per day. Ridiculous.

And where it is past the 1 year Apple Warranty I am expected to pay a service charge to fix wifi for their sloppy iOS release of 7.1? There better be a hotfix soon for this. Completely unacceptable.

My problem appears to have been solved. For the first time since I upgraded to iOS 7.1, I physically connected my iPhone 4S to my Mac and synced to iTunes. I remembered getting a message on my phone after I upgraded that iTunes wifi sync would not work again until I had connected to my Mac via USB. I ignored it at the time and finally tried yesterday afternoon. The iTunes sync to my Mac worked via USB as normal. Nothing really seemed different at the time. I checked in my 'Setting' 'General' 'iTunes Wi-Fi Sync' on the iPhone and it now looks to be set up for wifi sync. Since I did this, my wifi seems to be normal now. It is still connected when I wake the phone from sleep. Whew!

Just checking back in to confirm that Wi-Fi connections on my iPhone 5 are still shoddy since my upgrade to 7.1. I've given up and turned Wi-Fi off because I can't handle the frustration and my data plan has enough on it to cover my needs. This might be my last iPhone however if Apple continues to ignore this problem.

I've tried EVERY suggestion I can find, including those in this thread and nothing works. I'm done trying.

Thg20.. You wasting your time if it's IPhone 4. The latest FW ( ver 7.0 ) disables the WIFI/BLUEtoo HW. There is no fix .

Apple support is acting like they do not know the problem -and skirting the issue until there is a uprising in the Consumer Group in the USA....since Apple does not sell this model many stores would NOT address the needed fix. Tried 5 stores in Texas USA... No luck.

My iPhone went crazy after updating it to 7.1. Not only did it freeze once it had finished, but then I wi-fi was blacked out it wasn't even possible to turn it on, and it also wouldn't work unless the phone was plugged in (wouldn't even work via USB). I'd turned it on and off, done a factory reset and all sorts. So that was annoying, but I took my SIM card out to move it to a different phone, but thought I'd try the iPhone again, and now it's working completely fine again. I don't know if it'll last, I'm quite surprised it worked. Seems like a very strange fix, I don't understant it at all, but hopefully it might help a few others too.

Thanks for the tip, but it did not work for me. I did learn how to remove the SIM card, though. No doubt Apple wants us to buy new phones or raise ATTs profits on cellular data now that the iPhone 4 no longer has wifi capability. All my other devices work fine including an iPad and many Windows devices. Apple has my email address. They should have emailed users about this. I like Apple even less now.

I made an appointment with the genius bar in Fashion Valley, San Diego. The guy helping me had seen the same problem hapening with his mom's 4s.

Apple claims there must have been a latent previous problem before having installed the update, and since the update was big, it made that technical problem become "active". Since there was no longer any warranty on my 4s, the only option Apple offered was to get my 4s replaced by a new one at the price of 199,00 US$.

In other words, Apple is aware of the problem, but will not solve it.

I also have this same issue. It's a real shame that Apple would release an update for phones that cannot properly handle the firmware. If they tested it like they should have, then this is clearly a message from Apple stating "get a new phone or leave us."

There are some options that people have to deal with this prevalent issue.

1) Find an iphone that is pre 7.0.6 (I started having this issue at that update) and NEVER update it (regardless of the "security issue" that 7.0.6 supposedly solves.

2) Replace the wifi-chip. There's a few youtube videos that show how to do this (you'll find some using search terms like "greyed out wifi"). It may make more sense to just have a professional do this for you.

3) The heat/freeze. As someone else previously stated, this is a bit "radical," and should be done with caution. DISCLAIMER: I'm SOOOO not responsible if you manage to break your device beyond repair.

What it entails: Use a blow dryer (I used a heat gun) to heat up your device, concentrating mostly at the top of your phone where the camera and speaker is. Obviously don't put your heat source directly on the phone, keep it maybe an inch or three away. Your phone is SUPPOSED to give you a temperature warning (at which point you would cease heating the device). Mine did not, so I checked it by hitting the home button and was greeted with half a black screen and the other half completely fine. Almost had a conniption.

I decided at that point that it must be hot enough, so I turned my heat gun off, and held the power button down. INSULATE YOUR HAND, lest you burn yourself when holding that button. Once I saw cancel ("slide to power off was hidden in the black part of the screen), I slid my finger over where I imagine the "slide to power off" was, and it turned off. Quickly pop that sucker in a zip lock bag and leave it in the freezer for 10 minutes.

Pulled it out after, screen back to normal. Wifi functioned and still functions normally (updates were a bit wonky, had to update each app 1 at a time instead of "update all"). I'm assuming that this is only a temporary fix, so I suggest that if you don't want to do it again, don't let your phone get too hot EVER. Don't use it too much, yada yada. OR, just avoid this altogether and go for option 1 or 2.

Apple, I'm pretty disappointed in you.

There was still a warranty on my daughter's iPhone 4S, so we turned it in where we had bought it. First their service centre triedto solve the problem, but didn't managed, so they forwarded it to Apple's service centre, but they didn't either manage to fix it, so they sended her a brand new iphone 4S 32MB, and now there is a 2 year guarantee again. I'm happy, now she can get a new iphone next time they make an update, with built-in errors. ;-)

after upgrade my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.1 I have no Wifi, after wake up from sleep!!
