iTunes Match streaming with gaps between songs since ios7.1 update

Another thing with Ecoute (and I think the music app worked this way before it broke). If you're streaming, you can't just skip to the end of a song to see if the next track plays with no gap. You have to play the whole song to give the servers a chance to prefetch the next track.

The only albums it plays without gaps are the ones locally on my iPad and iPhone. The gaps are still there from ITunes Match in the cloud.

Not only is the Music app closed, I shut down the iPad and rebooted before opening Ecoute. Albums from the cloud absolutely still have the gaps. And that's playing songs straight through, not skipping ahead. My guess is you are actually listening to albums loaded onto your device and not from the cloud.

Wrong. Not on my end. I have absolutely NO GAPS on albums played from the cloud in Ecoute. They even have the cloud symbol.

In the music app, I get gaps regardless of whether the albums are downloaded or streamed.

woohoo. seems apple fixed it already. i am streaming dark side of the moon right now on my iphone 5s and it is playing back gapless. this with the apple supplied music player.

The gaps are still there. Anyway, how would they fix it without a software update? Magic?

Not sure about the 'magic' part. All I know is Roger Waters' "Flickering Flame" album is now streaming gapless to my iPhone 5s with 7.1. And so is Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". I tested them both via wifi and via cellular data. And, no, they are not on the phone. I have 0 song files on my phone.

Yep, joakes66 is right. No gaps when streaming. Don't ask me how, but maybe they tweaked something on the server side. I'm downloading an album now to see if it works locally. If it does, they must have set something on the server to pass through the "gapless" bit in the metadata.

I still have gaps both on 4G and WiFi. I have a lot of music that I uploaded to the cloud that is not in the ITunes Store so who knows that may have something to do with it but there's never been gaps before. I still don't see how this problem would be fixed without an iOS update considering the problem started with the software upgrade.

And that may be it. It does seem that albums available on the Apple Store are gapless and everything I've uploaded is not. I am a big collector of Pearl Jam's official bootleg series and they are sold directly through the Band's website with only a select few coming to iTunes long after release. So somehow they have triggered it for the store material but otherwise, the software flaw remains and it is a major problem for live music.

Sorry, my last post was a mistake. I have gaps on everything except for albums that I have locally on my iPad or IPhone, which means the problem still exists entirely.

Ok. It's fixed on my end. Downloaded an album and NO GAPS!!!

My theory is they tweaked something on the server side to allow the "gapless" metadata in each file to get downloaded.

Remember that streaming is not really streaming. You're really downloading the song in a temporary file. When your device needs the space, it deletes those files. Just go to General -> Usage -> Storage (Not iCloud) and find Music.

There's data there.

Anyway, I really think Apple's servers weren't passing on the "gapless" metadata and now they are. Seems to be working fine on my end.

And by the way, I just tried it on a live album not available on iTunes.

Try clearing out your cache by going to Usage -> Storage -> Music. Hit the Edit button in the top right corner and delete the All Music entry.

Remember music is not really streamed. It's cached and the files are only deleted when your device runs out of space.

Nope. Still gaps.

Still gaps for me as well.

Not as noticeable as there doesn't seems quite as big a gap as previously but still there nonetheless.
