Macbook Pro with green line on the screen

My Macbook Pro had an intermittent green line on the screen, which has now become permanent. On searching the Web I noted that this is a common problem. Surely this should be covered as a manufacturing defect by Apple? Can someone advise?

Hi! My Macbook pro from early 2011 has just got the green line. I got it all of a sudden yesterday. Have you hada any trouble using the mac? Will my computer eventually die? I do not want to buy a new screen since its almost already 5 years old. Maybe buying a new macbook soon.
