USB ports not working on MacBook pro

I Am trying to hook up a portable hard drive (2.0) via a USB port. I've now checked with other items as we'll and it appears that the connections through the USB ports are no longer working.

PLease help!

Jkp54,

have you run your MacBook Pro’s Apple Hardware Test, to see if it can detect anything amiss?
