Project disappeared

Hello. What do you mean in the short version by "copy and paste your old project" to a new folder? I can't find my old project so I don't know what to copy and paste. Here is my current situation:

Was working on a project in iMovie 10.0.6 and computer shut down. When it came back up and I went into iMovie, the project was gone. The event I was working with is still there. However, when I try to create a new movie/project with the same file name as the project that I lost, iMovie says it still exists.

I have tried every troubleshoot I can find online and I still can't find/open my project. Any new advice or tip? Thanks.

Don't know for sure if this will work, but find and trash the CurrentVersion.flexolibrary in the Library package. Shut down iMovie first and then relaunch after trashing the file. I would not empty the trash as a precaution. iMovie should rebuild the file.

I have the exact same problem.

The Project window says that I have 7 projects but shows only 3. I have tried to trash the CurrentVersion.flexolibrary but it didn't help. When I trash CurrentVersion.flexolibrary and start iMovie it says, that it is loading the project, that it will not show. The problem began, when I made several voice over. Suddenly I couldn't hear the sound, when I was skimming. Then I restarted iMovie, and the project dissapeared. Could it be that CurrentVersion.imovieevent has become currupt?

I had a very similar issue after an iMovie crash. For me trashing the CurrentVersion.imovieevent did not help. However in my case I found a CurrentVersion.imovieevent-journal file next to my *project* file, the one which can be found here: <iMovie Library/Event name/Project name>. I trashed that journal file and then the missig project magically reappeared on iMovie startup. (I have no clue what that journal file is for.)

i'm not sure if this will answer your question but today i had all of my projects disappear in iMovie 10.0.3. i couldn't get any of the fixes i tried to work so after a couple of hours i deleted all of the log/ journal files in the package "iMovie Library.imovielibrary" this included searching in folders. i deleted the following four files.

__Sync__

CurrentVersion.imovieevent-journal

CurrentVersion.flexolibrary

CurrentVersion (728 - 2014-06-25 18-48-59 +0000).flexolibrary

after i deleted these files i resarted iMovie and all the projects were there. even after several restarts the projects are still there.

now the only file like the ones i deleted in the package is-

CurrentVersion.flexolibrary with a time stamp of the last time i opened the file.

Hey guys! Here's what I did that saved my project.

-SHORT VERSION-
Use the Finder window on your Mac to copy and paste your old project (the one not showing up in imovie) to a new folder so that iMovie will see it.

-LONG VERSION-

CONDITIONS:

The project has to exist on your hard drive. To see if it's hiding around somewhere go to:

• Home (your name)>Movies>iMovie Library (right click and select Show Package Contents)
• In the iMovie Library folder (the default is usually the date) open it to see if your Project is inside. If it is, you are in luck!

RESTORING PROJECT:

• Open iMovie
• start a new folder under the iMovie Library (again, the default is usually todays date)
• Close iMovie
• In the finder window (as explained above in the CONDITIONS section) select the files and folders of your project and copy them (in my case these consist of folders called Analysis Files, Original Media, "MYPROJECT", Render Files, Shared Items)
• There should now be a folder with today's date in that Show Package Contents folder.
• Paste a copy of your project;s files into this folder.
• When it is done copying, open up the "Original Media" folder and all of your images and clips should be present.
• reopen iMovie. Your project should show up in the Libraries list.

*If your full project isn't showing in the iMovie timeline (mine just had empty bubbles where all my clips and audio should be) try dragging and dropping the clips and images from the project's "Original Media" folder into the import section of your project. Once the files were reimported, iMovie recognized them all and put them back in the correct place for me.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I had spent days working on a project that I planned to have done by today and after opening up imovie after a force quit when it froze, the project count was still at 1 but there was nothing visible, no project icon to click on.
After deleted what you deleted POOF it reappeared again completely intact.

I've experienced a project disappearing after creating a voiceover. Although the microphone icon was active and it appeared to record the voiceover, no audio track was added to the timeline. After trying a few times I quit iMovie. Quitting took a while, maybe 5s with the beach ball displayed, before completing.

When I reopened iMovie the project I had been working on was no longer visible. The clips within the associated event still had the coloured bands indicating what parts of the clip were chosen, so it looked the project was corrupted rather than lost. Trying the various suggestions in this and other threads didn't work for me.

I had a Time Machine backup so thankfully only lost an hour's work, but my faith in iMovie has been eroded and I now find myself in the farcical situation of backing up a 25GB library before creating a voiceover.

EASY WAY TO FIX THIS:

I went through the same thing, and this is what I did ... Very easy.

With iMovie closed or open, Right click on the iMovie Logo. This will come up..... (See ScreenShot)

It turns out I had 2 different libraries, and somehow ended up in the empty one. So I selected the other library (iMovie Library1) ... and BINGO, up pops my project. I deleted the empty one. I had probably made this other library when I was learning to navigate the new iMovie 11.

How did you delete the files?

I couldn't find the sync file however deleted this file: CurrentVersion.flexolibrary

OMG this is a life saver, though things have changed a little for 10.0.5.

Now there is only one file per project, named Currentversion.imovieevent. My "missing" project also had another file called Currentversion.imovieevent-journal. If I copied that file over to the newly made one, it also failed to open, so make sure you don't copy the -journal file when you do the above patch process. Thanks!!!

Perhaps this will be helpful to others — I had gone into the package file and move out a project folder to zip it and store it in the cloud because I didn't have the disk space for it. Then when I tried to restore it, iMovie would recognize the directory with the clips but didn't seem to be aware of it as a project. I had to rename the directory with a date-format name e.g. 12-25-15 and then it picked it up as an event and I was able to see the edited movie project again in iMovie. I'm using iMovie 10.1 on a mac running Yosemite.
