After the ios7.1 update my custom ringtones are gone. They show on itunes, but not on my phone. I have tried removing them and then sync. Then I added them again and did another sync, but no show on the ringtones???

It looks like iTunes will only sync about 500 ringtones at once now. You may have to select specific ringtones rather than All, to get the ones you want on the iPhone. This limit seems to be iTunes 12 or later only. Earlier versions were able to sync many more ringtones.
I have tested this under iOS 8.x and the limit still stands. If you have under 500 Tones, the sync will complete. Over 500 Tones, the sync will fail. This will also affect Restoring and app syncing because Apps are synced after Tones. So if you do a Restore and have over 500 Tones, the Restore will not include all your Apps.
