iPad 2 camera is really really bad. Is Apple considering upgrading this feature or providing alternatives for those who utilize their cameras on their iPad ?

Please fix the camera for the iPad 2. This tablet is too expensive for the camera to be such a lost. I took it to the apple store and even the employee there agreed that the camera is horrible. This of course did not make me feel Better after all I already paid my money. This is my second IPAD 2 in less than a year. The first IPAD video card was not working. My original IPAD 2 pictures were crappy and so is the new IPAD 2. Totally unacceptable. When I am due for a new tablet I will definitely take this into consideration during the decision process.

Since the camera quality is related to the hardware that's in it, its unlikely it will get fixed by a software update. Its 3 year old hardware. At the time, it was as good as it got. Obviously by today's standards its less than stellar, but what can you do?

The iPad 2 camera is not a high def camera like other models have, it was never claimed to be when it was released.

Heck, even the top of the line Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. today has a measly 3MP camera.

At the end of the day, tablet cameras are not designed for high quality pictures. You need HD photos get a real digital camera.

This is the description from Apple of the Ipad2 camera:

Cameras, Photos, and Video Recording Back camera: Video recording, HD (720p) up to 30 frames per second with audio; still camera with 5x digital zoom; Front camera: Video recording, VGA up to 30 frames per second with audio; VGA-quality still camera; Tap to control exposure for video or stills; Photo and video geotagging over Wi-Fi.

I am not seeking HD quality pictures as mentioned above in a comment. I however expect a lot better picture quality and pictures that are not distorted or grainy. After all, my iPhone takes satisfactory pictures. I am strong believer that when you work hard to pay for something it's only right that you receive it. Basically, decent pictures are fine with me as I am not picky. Distorted and grainy pictures are just unaccepted.

The iPad 2 has a crappy camera. It's mediocre at best. And nothing will change that. The air at least has a 5 megapixel camera.

If you look at the features the iPhone and iPod have in the photo area and compare them to the iPad you can guess that while you and others may use your iPad as a camera (and they may appear in ads that way) it's not a fully fledged high quality digital camera.

If you want to use your iPad as a video camera, take the 2 back and get an air. Even then, however, it's not a video camera. It is what it is.

No matter what the description says, the iPad is not a camera. It is a tablet that has the added bonus of being able to take photos and videos. The camera was included in the iPad 2 design mainly so that FaceTime could be used on the device and the rear facing camera became - once again - a bonus. The iPad was not designed to be your primary camera/photo taking device. The iPad will never be designed to be used as your primary photo taking device. Just based on the size and shape of the device, it's absurd to think other wise ... IMHO.

Take it back if you're not happy with the camera. If you want to take great photos, buy a decent camera - not an iPad.

If you just bought this new and it's less than 14 days old, Apple just discontinued the iPad 2 and replaced it with a 16 GB storage iPad 4 with retina display.

You can purchase one of these either at an Apple Store or at Apple's online store.

The cameras on the iPad 2 were always low resolution and not of good quality for taking still photos.

It is more of a VGA quality video camera for video chatting and taking short video clips.

There is no way to improve the iPad 2’s camera's qquality.

Sorry.

Demo,

Any digital camera that is, at least, capable of taking 3 MP pictures, is going to give pretty good results and allow for some enlargement.

While the iPad's shape and size make picture taking a little awkward, the 5 MP rear cameras in newer iPad's are capable of taking great pictures when plenty of light is available. And you can get really nice 8 x 10 and 9x12 enlargements from those pixel size images.

I have taken quite a few images with my iPad as it is always with me wherever I go.

The images don't match the higher quality of my older 10 MP Sony DSLR, but they are pretty good with enough ambient light.

I wish iPads did a flash light next to the lens, though. It would make taking images in subdued light a better experience as I do not have to always edit these types of darkened images all of the time.

I am by no means tech savvy however, I am intelligent enough to know that the IPAD 2 is a tablet and not a camera. It was was one of the features I hoped I could have enjoyed however, I just wanted to see if there were any solutions to this issue. If you can't help me fine but please do not insult my intelligence. I have been fairly respectful I must say. Have a blessed evening. Thank you.
