Im working on a MAC 10.4.11 & safari will freeze and then close unexpectedly how can I either fix, work around or use a different browser so this doesnt happen anymore? Thanks

~/Library/Preferences when I do the search as youve laid out I get the message "The folder cannot be found" I get the same message when I entered "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist" "The folder cannot be found"
Would an uninstall and reinstall of safari 4.1.3 be a too simplistic fix here?
Safari works in another account : reinstalling it won't change anything in your usual one, although here's a link : Safari 4.1.3 for Tiger
If you select the Home (house) icon in Finder sidebar : is there a folder named Library among those on the right side ?.
If so : open it & try to locate a folder named Preferences
The Go to Folder seems to have worked for other files you looked for : is it possible that some text remains out of sight in the Go to Folder box ?. Triple-click in it to select everything, then press the delete key to be sure.
Failing that, I would try removing the entire Safari folder from Home/Library (don't trash it, just drag it to the Desktop while Safari is closed ).
Good morning Andy, yes there is a folder names preferences in the home icon. I did find the preferences folder. After that Im unsure what you want me to do, see below.

I think we should start by reviewing what files you've trashed or moved so far, just note the names here.
Since using Finder directly found the Preferences folder, it's probably better to continue finding things that way, rather than using the Go menu.
So for example, you open Home/Library/Preferences (the folder you found) & remove the file named
com.apple.Safari.plist (which is Safari's settings file).
Please confirm what has been removed, I don't want you to lose anything useful. Also, note that some sites (perhaps yahoo mail, for example) will cause slowdowns & odd behaviour in Safari 4.
If the very same sites worked in the new user account, then we may make progress.

The following have been moved to my desktop
com.apple.Safari.plist (which is Safari's settings file).
When you want me to completely delete something lets just say trash it. Anything you want me to isolate lets stick with move to desk top just so I dont get mixed up.

Those don't seem related to the problem.
Does Safari still have problems after moving those ?. Is yahoo mail a site you visited in both accounts ?.
Andy, I think we have a breakthrough moment here.
So I moved them over and it seemed to be doing better. Then it did it again where it froze, beach balled and then closed everything out.
I went to the log and cleared it and the safari one seems to be the same stuff I think. I cant really tell but the consolelog has this which coincides with when the error happened.

What does this mean?
From what I can tell, some earlier versions of Safari had a problem with certain image files, creating a string of messages like that & even crashing.
I think you're saying that Safari actually quits & must be re-opened, & yet no report or error window is created.
It does point towards certain pages or content causing this, & so switching browsers may be the way to go. If you can pin-point the page(s) visited just before the crashes & check the same ones in another account, then it may become clearer. If the new aqccount has similar problems, ignore the next bit.
Honestly, I've rather forgotten where all the Safari files were in Tiger, although I will suggest quitting it, removing Home/Library/Safari (the whole folder) and all the files you did previously (these will likely have been recreated by now), all while Safari is closed.
If you then still have problems that seem specific to the main account, check these folders (actually, I think you did one already) & report the contents,
Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
Home/Library/Input Methods/
Home/Library/InputManagers/
Home/Library/ScriptingAdditions
Regarding another browser : you may do well to ask at
Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger: Mac OS & System Software
mentioning that you have an intel Mac.
Hopefully, you'll get a reply from someone who has recent experience with Tiger & modern sites. I know that the yahoo mail site can be a problem even for Snow Leopard... so I'd avoid it on Safari if that's the case for you.

Those are all in the main HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and so would affect all user accounts. It sounds as if Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins was either empty, or didn't exist; which is fine.
