iPhone 4s iOS 7.1 Gmail won't work

Thanks in advance for any help.

I had my Gmail set up on my computer, my iPhone 4 and my iPad. Then my phone got dropped and wrecked. I went and bought a new iPhone 4s yesterday, and now I can't set up my Gmail account on it.

Im trying to just set it up as a regular IMAP account, I don't want it set up via Exchange or anything. It kept telling me my password or user I'd was wrong, when I knew it wasn't. So I changed the password on my gmail account via my iPad. I am 100% sure it works now - I can send and receive gmail on the iPad. My new phone still wont connect. It says "The user name or password for "imap.gmail.com" is incorrect."

Can someone provide an idiot-proof solution please? Thanks!

Go to gmail.com and sign in to your email account. (you can use the Safari App on the iPad for this part if you like).

Click on your picture or sillohette image in the top right and select Account.

Click Security on the top bar and see if two-step verification is enabled.

If it is enabled (which it sounds like it is) you can either:

1) Disabled it.

2) Follow the steps within to create an App Specific password for you new iPhone (this is how Google does two-step verification for Apple Mail instead of sending you a SMS text with a verifiaciton code everytime you open the Mail App)
