Friends in my contact list have been receiving spam (bogus) email from my contact list. The return address is one I never use (only my iPhone). At this point, should I be changing my iCloud security settings (i.e. password)? Help!
Your phone was not hacked. Your email was compromised. You should change the password for whatever email address your friends are getting the bogus email from. It's not a bad idea to change your Apple ID password periodically and you shouldn't use the same password for all of your accounts.

There is no malware or viruses current that affect iDevices. More likely your computer or email has been compromised. Start by changing those passwords first then worry about all the others.
It's my iCloud email address... which I never use. I don't even know where to look to set that password (other than iCloud). That's why I'm nervous.
Yes, that is probably the same as your Apple ID (unless you have more than one). Here are the instructions for changing the password:
