why is that? it's still signed right?
Don't think it is signed anymore
No, once an updated is released and you have already updated, previous builds are no longer valid for your device. Except for a brief period during beta release of 7.0 where devs had been able to downgrade, this was always the case.
nope, your wrong. i updated to 7.1 just now.but same result. replacement needed error.i wonder wha is really the problem.
Whatever is wrong with your device might appear to be allowing it, but I can tell you this is the case.
Just out of curiosity Earvin29, has your device ever been jailbroken?
My Ipad is not jailbroken and never was. Is bought from shop and the guarantee expired in december 2013. Still have the same problem.
I have exactly the same problem! Replacement needed message is on the screen, the ipad was working fine before the update to 7.1.1! ! The Apple Store was no help, told me that I need to buy a new ipad! Very unhappy!
I will restore mine today for the nth time! 😐
Any fix or solution from anyone? I dont think the software update is the problem, its apple server that is blocking out ipad 2's for activation. Because even if how many times you restore your ipad it will just end on replacement needed message. Hope somrbody will come up witha ssolution.
Exactly the same problem, waiting for the solution. 😟
yeah how i wish there is a fix as soon as possible.maybe another ios update that can get thru this bug or whatever the problem is. becausealready contacted apple and all they can say is go to the nearest apple storeor service provider near me.
I have been in regular contact with AppleCare who are very helpful. The issue has been escalated to the iOS Engineers (in Australia) and they said the issue is affecting some cellular iPad 2's (WiFi only iPad 2's should not be affected), and is definitely a server backend configuration problem with the cellular connections.
You can prove this by inserting a SIM Card into your cellular iPad 2 and checking the status of the cellular connection to your provider. It should say "Searching..." however I have found that mine says "No Service", causing the iPad failing to activate saying "Replacement Needed". Sometimes a Service or a connection to the cellular network is needed to activate the iPad.
Hopefully I should have another update for you guys soon!
Thanks for this post! It gives me hope. Lol. I was sad thinking that my ipad 2 was going to be a paperweight. Hope thy could have a fix worldwide for our ipad 2 gsm. Keep us posted! :)
I can now say that my problem has now been resolved. Two of my iPads had the 'Replacement Needed' error and it is now fixed.
Issue: A whole batch of serial numbers went missing in Apple's database, causing your iPad to not be recognised by Apple's activation servers (no joke)
Only solution: You have to ring AppleCare in your respected country and they should escalate your issue to iOS Engineers.
My iPads were 500 days out of warranty and they still managed to fix it. If you have any further questions, post a comment and I'll try to get back to you.
