Thanks for the update and great news. i've been linking to your post whenever anybody asks about the replacement needed message. Hopefully the fix works for everybody.
I hope so too. I'm actually dreading to update it again because I see new posts having the same problem. I actually bought an iPad mini last week (I still don't know if it was a good idea?!) and I also didn't expect the simple hard reset will bring the iPad 2 back to life. I wish everyone's money doesn't go to waste again just because of a simple update.
If your iPad 2 is working and the mini is now extra that you don't need you still may have time for a refund. Hopefully most people with the problem held off getting the replacement and too much money wasn't lost.
Maybe Apple server has fixed this issue, i just starting up my ipad and finally get pass activation process..... im so happy because i didn't sell my ipad but wait until apple fix this issue
I tried today but the problem is not solved. Apple continues to say that it is a hardware problem (but not writes). If you can tell me the serial number of your apple ipad I give to the case solved hoping to have the same luck ...... thanks
I'm happy today! turned activate ipad2 unexpected that Apple will solve this problem !!!
my ipad 2 also come back after 6 months deadly, luckily I didn't exchange it for a refurbished one. Thanks all for the effort.
For me nothing news 😟 i tried every days with DFU or hard reset, but i have every time the same bad message! there isn't a support for this problem... 5 month since the problem start 😟
My iPad 2 which I purchased in Thailand a few years ago started displaying this error when I upgraded the software earlier this year. A trip to a UK Apple store resulted in the Genius saying he had never seen the message before and then accused me of having a counterfeit model which was why Apple servers were stopping the activation process. He kindly offered to take it in as part exchange against a new Air or to swap it out for another 2 at £199. I declined both options and returned home. I emailed Tim Cook with this tale of woe at the beginning of July. I also had a separate moan about the Home button replacement on my iPhone 5 which took 14 days and resulted in the store and AppleCare not actually knowing where my phone was at one point.
No reply from Tim Cook however I tried activation again a couple of weeks ago. The so called counterfeit iPad is now working again.
I have the same problem with the IPAD2 but yesterday tried to activate it again but got the same message, does anyone know the email of who can p solve the problem? Thank you.
I'm having the same problem with an iPad 2 32GB wifi+3G... Serial Number DN6GN175DFJ2
I hope that iOS 8 can resolve this problem...
same problem for me, ipad 2 16gb wifi+3g.... the serial is DMPGMUE2DFJ1
Same Problem with iOS 8...
no luck for me either, it would be nice to have an official statement from apple about this issue, but at this point i think we won't have one...
i always loved apple products (i'm watching contents from my NAS on my ipad 1 while i write this) but after the wall of silence surrounding this issue i'm reconsidering my position on their products...
